No need to deploy army in UP polls: EC

There is no reason to deploy army personnel for the upcoming union parishad (UP) elections, Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz said today.

“Presently, no such situation has arisen to deploy army during the polls,” he said while talking to reporters at his office at the Secretariat.

“I don’t think there will be any violence during the UP polls, hence there is no reason to deploy the army personnel during the polls,” he added.

The first phase of the UP polls across the country will start on March 22.
