No need to take Khaleda abroad now: Doctor
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia does not need to be sent abroad for treatment now, said Prof Dr MS Zaman Sheheen, chief of the four-member medical board formed to oversee the health condition of the party chief.
“Khaleda Zia is no longer in a serious state. It seems to me that her (Khaleda) treatment is possible at home," Dr Zaman also head of the Orthopedic Department of the DMCH, told The Daily Star.
The medical board will come up with next steps on receipt of the reports of medical tests performed at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) yesterday, he said.
Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia's health check-ups reports were sent to the jail authority around 1:05pm, BSMMU Director Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun told our correspondent.
Yesterday, Khaleda Zia was taken to the BSMMU from the city's old central jail where she was undergoing tests including x-rays in her spine, hip-joint and pelvis.
Khaleda Zia, also the three-time prime minister, was sent back to the jail after completion of her medical check-ups for at least two hours.
On 8 February, a special court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and sent her to jail.
On Saturday, the BSMMU director said that Khaleda Zia is apparently in good health. He, however, told that the actual condition of her health would be known on availability of the x-ray reports.
Hours after the check-ups, BNP said that Khaleda Zia was taken to the BSMMU forcibly only to harass her in the name of treatment.
Earlier, a four-member medical board, comprised of four professors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, has been formed to assess health of the BNP chief.
The board examined Khaleda Zia at the jail on April 1.
