Old Baksal in new form today: BNP
The BNP today alleged that the ruling Awami League government is reinstating “old Baksal in new form” killing the country’s hard earned democracy.
“The incumbent immoral government is governing the country in one-party style,” said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the BNP.
“They are reinstating old Baksal in new style-- Rights of the opposition party, destroying freedom of thought and expression and killing democracy,” Fakhrul said.
He came up with the statement to mark the 36th death anniversary of the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated by disgruntled army officers in Chittagong in on May 30, 1981.
“In such a situation, all the democracy loving people should be united under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to restore multiparty democracy in the country,” he said.
Speaking at a different programme at Engineers’ Institute organised for the same occasion, Fakhrul said BNP wants an election that is “meaningful and inclusive”.
He also called upon the ruling party to withdraw all cases against opposition men in a bid to create a level playing field for all in the upcoming general election.
