Plea seeks Khaleda shown arrested in another case
A petition was filed today seeking BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is already in jail, be shown arrested in a lawsuit filed for demeaning Bangladesh’s national flag.
AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, submitted the petition before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ahsan Habib.
He said in the petition, Khaleda did not appear before the court and seek bail despite a standing arrest order, which was issued against her in this matter on October 12 last year.
Now, the court is yet to pass any order on the issue.
On October 12, Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nabi issued the arrest warrant against Khaleda as she failed to appear before the court even though the court asked her repeatedly to attend hearing.
On November 3, 2016, Siddique filed the case with the court, accusing Khaleda and her late husband and former president Ziaur Rahman of undermining the country's map and national flag.
Dropping Zia's name from the case as he is dead, investigation officer of the case submitted the probe report to the court on February 25 last year.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia landed in jail last week in a case of Tk 2.10 crore graft.
