Power tariff hike anti-people: BNP
BNP today came down heavily on the government for again increasing the power tariff and said it has been done only to “plunder people’s money”.
“It is illogical and anti-people decision,” BNP Spokesperson Rizvi Ahmed said this while addressing a press conference protesting the government’s decision to increase electricity tariff.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) today announced that an average increase of power tariff by 5.3 percent or Tk 0.35 per unit will come into effect from December.
Terming the government as “bloodsucker”, Rizvi said the government has increased the power tariff again though the oil price has come down in the international market.
“The government has become crazy to gulp down the entire country,” said Rizvi, also senior joint secretary general of the party.
Blaming the government for destroying the country’s financial sectors including banking and share market, the BNP leader said the government has increased power tariff six times in bulk and seven times in retail level in the last six years from 2015.
The limited income group and the country’s overall economy will face a severe crisis due to the adverse impact of the power tariff hike, he added.
