Quader Mirza announces press briefing ignoring Section 144

Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of AL general secretary Obaidul Quader and elected mayor of Basurhat municipality under Companiganj upazila of Noakhali, has announced to hold a press briefing, despite Section 144 being imposed in the municipality area.

The administration imposed Section 144 in the municipality for 12 hours from 6:00am today to evert any untoward incident as two factions of Awami League have declared to hold meetings at the same place simultaneously.

At first, Mirza said he will hold the briefing at 11:00am today but the briefing was shifted to 3:00pm today, reports our Noakhali correspondent.

On the other hand, Quader Mirza's rival Mizanur Rahman Badal, organising secretary of the upazila AL, said he will hold a meeting at 3:00pm at Tekerhat of Charkakra union, which is out of the purview of the Section 144.  

Zahidul Haque Ronny, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said the Section 144 has been imposed only in the municipality area to maintain law and order situation.

Borhan Uddin Muzakkir (30), correspondent of local online portal Barta Bazar, was killed and several others were injured in clashes between two factions of the ruling party over establishing supremacy in Companiganj upazila on Friday.

Protesting the death, Quader Mirza and Mizanur Rahman both decided to hold a protest rally at Rumali Chattar at 3:00pm today.
