Quitting cabinet: Ershad seeks to meet PM for talks
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has sought the prime minister’s appointment for talks on resignation of the party’s leaders from the cabinet.
GM Quader, the newly appointed co-chairman of Jatiya Party whose appointment exposed a rift within the party, revealed the development while talking to journalists in Dhaka today.
The party now holds three ministerial posts at the cabinet after the general election of 2014. Also Ershad, chief of the party is currently employed as a special envoy for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“By resignation from the cabinet, we can ensure our role as a true opposition party,” Quader told the media at the party chief’s Banani office this afternoon.
“I placed a proposal to Jatiya Party chief that he can discuss the issue of resignation from the cabinet with the prime minister. He accepted it and sought the appointment today,” he said.
“I told him that he can take Raushan Ershad (also leader of the oppositon in parliament) along with him,” he said adding that Ershad will also discuss the point of resigning from his position as a special envoy to the prime minister.
