SCC polls: Ariful, Kamran submit nomination
Both ruling Awami League and opposition BNP’s candidates have submitted nominations for contesting the Sylhet City Corporation elections on July 30.
Running mayor and BNP’s choice Ariful Haque Chowdhury filed his nomination at regional office of the Election Commission at city’s Machinpur around 3:30pm, our local correspondent reports quoting Returning Officer Alimuzzaman.
He resigned from his office at 1:30pm to submit his nomination, Shahabuddin Shihab, press information officer of Sylhet City Corporation told The Daily Star.
Awami League’s candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran filed his nomination at 1:30pm, said Md Alimuzzaman, regional poll officer and returning officer of the upcoming election.
The ruling party candidate went to the Election Commission office with about a thousand supporters and activists marching in procession and shouting slogans behind him.
Sylhet’s city corporation election will be held on July 30, concurrently with the city elections to Rajshahi and Barisal cities. Today is the date for submitting nominations.
