Graft case: Court extends Khelada's bail again
A Dhaka court today extended to April 22 the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in connection to the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5, set up at Alia Madrasha in Dhaka’s Bakshibazar area, passed the order after Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Mia submitted a petition seeking the extension of the bail.
The court also ordered the concerned authorities to produce Khaleda before it on that day.
Meanwhile, Khaleda was not produced before the court today as she was “physically sick”, according to jail authorities.
Khaleda who landed in jail on February 8 as she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in another graft case against her.
On March 28, the special court fixed today for hearing arguments in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station in August 2011, accusing Khaleda and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources.
On March 13, the court issued a production warrant for Khaleda asking the jail authorities to produce her before it on March 28-29.
