Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Law Minister Anisul Huq have mourned the demise of freedom fighter Abdul Hai, younger brother of President Abdul Hamid, who died from Covid-19 infection in Dhaka earlier today.

Abdul Hai breathed his last around 1:45am while being treated at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Sources at Bangladesh Awami League confirmed the news to The Daily Star.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound grief at the death of the freedom fighter. She prayed for the departed soul and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, sources added.

In a condolence message, the law minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy towards Abdul Hai's bereaved family members.

Abdul Hai had been working as assistant personal secretary to the president. He was also involved with several educational and cultural institutions.
