Rahat Khan -- writer, journalist and a friend

Never thought I will have to write an obituary so fast. It was just the other day that I had a long chat with him over the phone.

Usually we talked about health, morning walks and writing.

Rahat Khan is one of the writers well known for his complex, versatile character buiding -- even in the format of short story.

I had two decades of constant interaction -- every morning at Ranma Park -- with him.

Out of curiosity, once I had  asked him: "how do you want to be remembered?"

His response was dramatic: "I do not care how people remember me, I am an artist. I do things which I enjoy doing!"

I observed little things would make him happy every day -- a cup of tea at Sheraton or a little bite of patties at Dhaka Club. He loved cafes, especially where the crowd was relatively young.

This man had his unique style in personal choices and in his writing too.

He had an enormous gift of hunting talent in both writing and journalism. Thus, a complete generation of writers were spotted and groomed by him, personally.

We have lost a great storyteller, who shall remain in the hearts of millions of  readers.

However, my personal loss will ever remain irreparable.
