Awami League mayor candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton today expressed satisfaction over the elections held in the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).

Claiming the RCC elections to be the most successful of the three city polls held today, Liton said the election was held in a free and fair manner with no report of irregularities or vote rigging.

The AL mayoral candidate came up with the remarks at press conference held at Awami League’s Rajshahi unit office in Saheb Bazar area in the city this afternoon.

Liton also expressed optimism that he would clinch a landslide victory against his opponents after visiting different polling centres in the city.

He hoped that he would bag over 70 per cent votes cast in the polls.

When asked about the allegations made by BNP candidates over irregularities in the three polls, Liton said it is their usual habit, and claimed that the allegations were not correct.

He also said it was not clear to him why his opponent, BNP mayoral candidate Bulbul, boycott today’s election.

Earlier in the day, Bulbul boycotted today’s election to the Rajshahi City Corporation.

Vote counting is going on after voting in the elections to the city corporation among three cities – Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal – ended at 4:00pm.

The voting began this morning at 8:00am
