Rajshahi reports first Covid-19 case

A 48-year-old man tested Covid-19 positive in Rajshahi's Puthia upazila today, making him the first confirmed coronavirus case in the district.

The man worked at a tailoring shop in the Shyamoli area of Dhaka and returned to his village home aboard a truck on April 4, said Nazma Akter, the upazila health and family planning officer.

After being informed by the locals of his area, upazila health officials collected his samples and sent them to the coronavirus testing laboratory of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) on April 9, Nazma told our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

"Our officials found him without any symptoms when they collected his samples. But he had occasional dry coughs," Nazma added.

Meanwhile, police locked down the entire area where the patients has been living in isolation, said Sub-Inspector Abdul Mazid of Puthia Police Station.

The police official said the man was asked to stay quarantined at his own house.

However, the laboratory of RMC performed some 400 tests from samples from eight districts of the division until today and found only two patients positive for Covid-19.

A man from Bogura was also found positive at the RMC laboratory. He was admitted to a hospital after he fell sick while travelling home from Dhaka recently.
