Govt will allow export of rawhide if necessary: minister

The government will allow the export of rawhide and wet blue if it is necessary so that the growers and seasonal traders can get proper prices.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said this at a meeting on price fixing of rawhide during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The minister came up with the decision as last year, around one crore pieces of rawhide were thrown away by the growers and seasonal traders as they did not get proper prices.

This year, the government has fixed Tk35 to Tk40 per square foot of cow hide in Dhaka. Outside Dhaka, the price range is between Tk28and Tk32 per square foot.

For goat hide, the price range is Tk13 to Tk15 per square foot and price of female goat hide is Tk10-Tk12 per square foot, the minister said.
