Korea to give $1.4m fund for Rohingyas

Korea will provide more US $1.4 million as humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees who have crossed into Bangladesh from Myanmar following persecution.

The Republic of Korea (ROK) government's contribution will be delivered through the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), said a press release issued today.

With this, the humanitarian assistance provided by the South Korea this year to the Rohingyas will stand at a combined 3.4 million US dollars.

The ROK government earlier contributed a combined US $2 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) for emergency aid operation and humanitarian assistance activities for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The ROK government expects that its donation will help alleviate sufferings and improve living conditions of the Rohingya people in a grave humanitarian crisis, especially the humanitarian situation of the most vulnerable brackets, such as women and children.
