Auntie says ‘I told you so’
An auntie yesterday reminded her nieces and nephews that she told them so, after all of them were laid low with the flu.
It made headlines because, well, column space lying empty and such.
"I told you so," said the auntie.
When asked what she had told them, she said, "I told them not to go playing in the rain. It will be the death of them, I said. But did they listen? No."
All of her nieces and nephews had contracted the flu after they went out to play in her backyard during a rainy evening.
"But, auntie had left all the toys out in the backyard," said a niece amid sniffles and coughs.
"The door was wide open too," said a nephew as he reached for a high-flow nasal cannula.
Another niece said, "That wasn't the main problem. The house was so cramped with all of us that we had to go out. Rain or no rain."
"Plus, there was an ice cream van outside with 50 percent off for Eid. Who won't go out to have ice cream for Eid?" asked another niece.
But the auntie was unrelenting.
"Did I or did I not tell you not to go out in the rain?" she asked.
"You did," said a nephew who was still in good health.
"Well, I told you so," she said, and opened the door.
