Netlfix's automotive reality TV: finally worth watching

Top Gear is nearly dead in the water and The Grand Tour is far off from a third season after a couple of lukewarm seasons. If you're a hot-blooded gearhead like us, what do you watch to keep the passion rolling? Grab your blankets and a can of motor oil—it's time to Netflix and chill with some car shows worth watching.

Car Masters: Rust to Riches

Watch the bearded custom car genius Mark Towle, eye-candy car girl Constance Nunes, power-tool crazed Caveman, the token tattooed mechanic Tony and sleazy wheeler dealer Shawn as they chase a six-figure pay day by building, upgrading and trading in hot rods until they get to something worth actual money.

Pros: Devoid of the manufactured "garage drama" that has flooded American automotive reality TV.

Cons: The builds aren't exactly picture perfect – pause and you can see the hilarious panel gaps and wavy surfaces.

Fastest Car

Watch a bunch of people from all over the US congregate and compete head to head—six figure supercars versus garage built sleepers, who will win? There's fighting, questions of patriotism and all kinds of weird characters that you'd expect from the typical reality show.

Pros: Lots of diversity, in the cars and in the characters. Not just American hot rods, so that's good.

Cons: Some manufactured drama. The occasional American redneck droning on about Detroit steel.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry of Seinfeld fame is a huge car geek with a bunch of Porsches in his personal collection, and makes it a point to borrow interesting cars to pick up interesting people (well, comedians) so that they can go have coffee. Since you can get pretty much all of that from the title, this was a pointless read. Congratulations.

Pros: Endless wit and smarty pants commentary from guests.

Cons: Not a lot of time is spent on the cars themselves, maing this less of a car show and more of a talk show inside cars.
