Independence Day 2016 programme at NSU
North South University organized a day-long programme on the occasion of Independence Day at the NSU Auditorium on March 26, 2016. The chief guest present was Mahabub Ul Alam Hanif MP, Joint General Secretary, Bangladesh Awami League. Lt. Col. (Retd.) Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir Bir Protik, was present as the special guest.
Kamal Lohani, President, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, was the keynote speaker. He described how the Pakistan Army swooped down on the unarmed innocent Bengalis on the night of March 25, 1971, to smoke out their struggle for freedom to today's young generation in his speech.
The session was chaired by Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, where M. A. Hashem and Benajir Ahmed, Members, Board of Trustees, and Prof. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, NSU delivered speeches.
In the morning, NSU Faculty Members along with Administrative Heads and students placed floral wreath at the National Monument in Savar to pay homage to martyrs.
Team from AIUB participates at University Rover Challenge
American International University – Bangladesh undergraduate engineering students put together a team of 17 members and entered the world's premier robotics competition for university students. The University Rover Challenge (URC) is held annually in the United States, and challenges student teams to design and build the next generation of Mars rover that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the red planet. Qualified teams will travel to Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station in southern Utah on June 2-4, 2016.
The team from AIUB call themselves American International University – Bangladesh Robotic Crew (ARC) and their rover is proudly named ARC-71. Under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Ebad Zahir, ARC is the first team in Bangladesh that has qualified to the semifinal stage in their very first attempt. Led by their resourceful Team Leader, Mahfuzur Rahman, the team has 13 bright and hardworking students from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of AIUB and 4 exceptionally talented stalwarts from the Computer Science department. The mechanical design of the rover was achieved by seven students managed by Ashik Sarker. The software/hardware interface was successfully handled by the remaining members managed by the Abir Hossen. They believe that through this opportunity they will be part of something special and inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps. More detailed information about

GUB observes Independence Day 2016
Green University arranged a discussion meeting followed by a cultural programme in the Green Auditorium of the university on March 27, 2016 to observe the Independence Day. VC (Acting) of the university Md. Shahid Ullah presided over the meeting while Sector Commander, Sector 1 of the Liberation War, Major (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam, MP was present as the chief guest. Green University Registrar, Lt. Gen. Md. Mainul Islam (LPR), Dean, Green Business School, Prof. Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Controller of Examinations, Prof. SMK Nazmul Haque, Chairpersons of different departments, faculty members, officers and a large number of students were also present in the meeting.
They emphasised on the importance of the present generation to know about the glorious history of our Liberation War and that now is the time to advance our nation with new dynamism by criticising ourselves to realise our ultimate objectives of independence. They expect that the students of the country can play a vital role in this regard.
BAUPS organises photo exhibition on Liberation War
A photo exhibition titled "Frame e Frame e Ekattor" was organised by Bangladesh Agricultural University Photographic Society (BAUPS) on March 26, 2016 at Shilpacharya Jaynul Abedeen Milanayatan. A rare collection of photos by renowned photojournalists Naibuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Shafi, Rashid Talukder, Manzoor Alam Begh, Sayeeda Khanom, Raghu Rai, Kishor Parekh, Bruno Barbey, Marilyn Silverstone, Raymond Depardon, Don McCullin and Abbas Attar were displayed. Those photos were collected from Liberation War E-Archive, Magnum Photos, Majority World, Drik Images and TIME Magazine. VC of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Prof. Dr. Md. Ali Akber inaugurated the programme accompanied by Prof. Dr. Jasimuddin Khan, Student Advisor and the President of BAUPS, Prof. Dr. Khan Md. Shaiful Islam. Visitors from BAU, different schools, colleges and others visited the exhibition and learned much about the history through photographs. A total of 132 photographs were exhibited. Somoy TV, banglanews24.com, Mymensingh Times, newshour.com.bd and shobujbangladesh24.com were the media partners. The whole event was associated by The Daily Star as Engagement Partner. Team BAUPS will be looking forward to do some more exhibitions on different occasions in the future.
BRACU students win HULT Regional Competition in Shanghai
A team of four undergraduate students of BRAC University became regional champions at the HULT Business Competition held in Shanghai on Mach 12, 2016. This is the first Bangladeshi team to have ever achieved such a feat at the world's biggest social business competition.
The competition took place across five regions of the world - Dubai, Boston, San Francisco, London and Shanghai. One team from each region will proceed to the grand finale of the HULT Prize 2016 in New York. This year, BRACU's team Synergy Global made history by being the first ever team from Bangladesh to win the regional final at Shanghai.
Synergy Global.co is now a registered company in Bangladesh. Its four founding members are Mirza Tanzim Sami, Tasneem Omar Ava, Arafat Ahmed, and Mohammad Saad.
This is the third attempt by BRACU in trying to conquer the regional competition. Team Synergy was selected through an internal competition organised by the BRAC Business School.
