IBACC announces champion of Brandwitz 2016
IBA Communication Club announced the Champion and the Runners Up of "Brandwitz 2016" in a grand finale on January 31, 2017 at capital's Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel.
Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, State Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presided over as chief guest along with Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Saiful Majid, the Director of Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. They along with high officials of Noman Group handed over the prizes to the Champion and Runners Up teams.
The judge panel of the finale included Faruque Hassan, Senior Vice President, BGMEA & Managing Director, Giant Apparels Ltd., Hasan Shibli, Managing Director & CEO, Base Textiles Limited and Shariful Islam, Founder, Bangladesh Brand Forum.
The Campeones, consisting of Tausif Ahmed, Toufiqul Islam Mannan Shourov, Nabid Hassan and Tasmia Tabassum, from IBA, University of Dhaka was announced as the Champion of Brandwitz 2016.
Challenge Accepted, consisting of Ahmed Tashfiq Rafsan, Ayman Rahman, Abreshmee Adeeba Haque and Sami Tahsin, from IBA, University of Dhaka was announced as the 1st Runner up and Team Potter, consisting of Taosif Amin Khan, Mastura Tasnim, Tanzir Islam and Rakib Ibnay Hossain, from IBA, University of Dhaka was announced as the 2nd Runner up of Brandwitz 2016.
The theme for the final round was focused on branding the readymade garments made in Bangladesh to prospective global buyers. The winning team of Brandwitz 2016 received BDT 250,000, with the first and second runners-up bagged BDT 150,000 and BDT 100,000 respectively.
Inspirational speaker Wajed Roger Salam speaks at ULAB
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a talk on "Life After University - Secrets of Creating a Successful Life" on January 31, 2017.
Wajed Roger Salam, a US-based award-winning inspirational speaker, best-selling author of several books, had the talk on January 31, 2017 in ULAB. In the talk, he emphasised more on acquiring and modifying soft skills to be successful in career. The participating students and faculty members had been introduced with some very common ideas of life from some astonishingly different perspectives. ULAB VC Prof. Imran Rahman, ULAB Registrar Prof. Akhtar Ahmed, faculty members and MBA students of ULAB were present at this talk.
Seminar on "Combating Drug Abuse and Corruption in Bangladesh" at NSU
North South University (NSU) organised a discussion programme titled "Combating Drug Abuse and Corruption in Bangladesh" at the NSU Auditorium on January 29, 2017.
The primary objective of the discussion programme was to refrain the youth from indulging themselves into drug abuse and restrain the concept of bearing corruption in public life. Moreover, the discussion programme was held to draw attention regarding the negative impacts that drug abuse and corruption can affect not only to its users but also people surrounding them. Regarding corruption, it was discussed that people must do their own civic duty.
In the discussion programme, Iqbal Mahmood, Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission delivered speech as the chief guest. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT, NSU, Khandakar Rakibur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Narcotics Control and Dr. Arup Ratan Chowdhury, President of MANAS were present as special guests. Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC of NSU chaired the session. Benajir Ahmed, BOT Member, NSU, M. A. Hashem, BOT, NSU, Mohammed Shajahan, BOT, NSU, Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, NSU, Deans, Chair of different Departments and Administrative Heads were present.
UAP holds receptionfor newly enrolled advocates
The Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised a reception programme in celebrating the success of its graduates in enrollment examinations of Bangladesh Bar Council for High Court Division and District Courts.
Thirteen graduates have been enrolled in the High Court Division while 32 graduates have been in the District Courts.
Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, Advocate Abdul Baset Majumdar was present as chief guest in the programme. He said that the UAP is one of the few private universities which provide quality legal education in Bangladesh. VC Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury also attended the programme.
The Department of Law and Human Rights regularly publishes UAP Journal of Law and Policy, arranges Moot Court and Debate Competitions, and organises UAP Distinguished Law Lecture Series and many other co-curricular activities.
Joint Certificate Course on Public Health Challenges completes at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) jointly delivered a Certificate Course on Global Classroom Initiative: "Addressing Current, Pressing Global, and Environmental Public Health Challenges" at the IUB premises in Bashudhara, Dhaka. This 4-month course took place from September to December 2016 under the School of Public Health, IUB. Virtual classes, under the course, included field research where students from Bangladesh and USA participated. The next course will be offered in Autumn Semester, 2017.
After the successful completion of the Joint Course, Prof. M Omar Rahman, the VC and Dean of the School of Public Health, IUB handed over certificates to the student-participants on January 31, 2017 at his office. Dr. Shamsun Nahar Ahmed, course faculty was also present during the occasion.
SEU and ICT Ministry sign MoU
A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Computer Training was signed among Southeast University (SEU), Computer Council under ICT Ministry and Project Implement Team of ICT for running advanced computer training for final year students of SEU. The signing ceremony was held on January 2, 2017 at VC's Conference Room, Banani, Dhaka. On behalf of SEU, VC Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin and on behalf of Computer Council, Md. Rezaul Karim, Joint Secretary, Ministry of ICT signed the MoU. M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Member of BOT, SEU Trust, Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Pro-VVC, SEU, Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Registrar, SEU, Afruza Sultana, Deputy Director of Department of Career Services (DCS) and Md. Saiful Alam Munir, Deputy Registrar (Academic) were present at the signing ceremony.
