Korean professor meets author at BRACU

On February 15, 2017, the Department of English and Humanities, BRAC University and the Department of English and Modern Languages, Central Women's University jointly hosted a discussion session with Professor and translator Seung-Hee Jeon, Research Professor at the Kim-Dae-Jung Presidential Library and Museum, Yonsei University in South Korea, at the GDLN Conference Centre, BRAC University. She is translating author Shaheen Akhtar's fiction on the War of Liberation, Talash into Korean language

She expressed a very high hope this book will find a wide Korean readership once the translation will be available by the end of 2017. After her presentation, there was a round of Q&A session. Then there were three presenters from Bangladesh: Shaheen Akhtar, followed by Bashabi Barua from Central Women's University and Anika Saba from BRAC University.

 

Inauguration ceremony of EWUMUNC and MUN Workshop 

The Inauguration ceremony of East West University Model United Nations Club was held on February 3, 2017. The chief guest was VC Prof. M. M. Shahidul Hassan. The special guest was Mohammad Mamun Mia, President of UNYSAB. The President of EWUMUNC, Mohammad Sajjad Hossain gave an inspiring speech to encourage the students of EWU to participate in MUN. He also thanked everyone for the support. The following MUN workshop had more than 300 participants. The workshop was arranged successfully with the effort of more than 30 organisers. The Youth Engagement Partner of the workshop was The Daily Star.

 

ULAB holds seminar on archaeological studies

Center for Archaeological Studies (CAS) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar titled "Experiencing the Past" on February 18, 2017 at ULAB Auditorium. The seminar commenced with the welcome speech by the VC Prof. Imran Rahman.  ULAB students of the specialised course presented a demonstration on their recent experience with the various methods and importance of community based cultural heritage preservation programme at Bhitargarh Archaeological Site. Syeda Nishita Aurnab, Lecturer and Research Associate of ULAB also presented a lecture on Egypt's Great Royal Wife Nefartari's life, love and art and the presentation was followed by a discussion made by ULAB Professor and Director of CAS, Dr. Shahnaj Husne Jahan. 

 

BUBT holds orientation ceremony

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) celebrated two-day long orientation ceremony to receive the newly admitted students of Spring 2017 semester at the Mirpur campus on February 15 and 16, 2017. 

A F M Sarwar Kamal, Chairman of BUBT Trust, graced the occasion as the chief guest and Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT presided over the functions. Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Treasurer of BUBT and Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Member, BUBT Trust and the Proctor of BUBT were the special guests.

The total number of 1588 newly admitted students of B.Sc Engineering in CSE, EEE, Textile Engineering and B.Sc in Economics, BA (Hon's) in English, LLB (Hon's) and BBA oriented through this functions.

 

TripZip organises Kids Camp

TripZip, in association with Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), organised "Kids Camp"- a 3-day programme with 8 specially designed sessions, activities and games for kids aging from 6 to 12 with the attempt to contribute significantly to their growth in terms of zeal, enthusiasm, intellect, social skills and more. The programme took place in National Scout Training Center, Gazipur with the closing ceremony taking place in Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.

The sessions included "Treasure Hunting", "Movie Show" and a special session by Light of Hope on "Arts & Crafts", who are thespians specialised on this field especially for children. In between, there were nine games focusing on physical activities, team building and lot of fun.­­ One session was facilitated by Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, a renowned child psychologist with the parents discussing about the learning process of kids and how they should be properly looked after during their early growing ages. 

Rasheda K. Choudhury, Executive Director, Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), and media personality Afzal Hossain were present in the closing ceremony on February 4, 2017, as special guests.

 

Seminar on jute geo-textiles at Primeasia University

The Department of Textile Engineering of Primeasia University organised a seminar on "The Prospect of Applications of Jute Geo-textiles in Bangladesh" on February 16, 2017 at its Banani campus. Prof. Dr. Gias Uddin Ahmad, VC of Primeasia University was present in the seminar as the chief guest.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Jabbar Khan, Professor of Civil Engineering Department, BUET who is also a Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission was the keynote speaker.

Among others, Heads of the Departments, teachers, officers, students of Textile Engineering Department and media personnel took part in the seminar.

 

Eastern University & Casper Foundation sign MoU

Eastern University (EU) and Casper Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 2, 2017, for a partnership to initiate the Casper Programme in the Eastern University campus. The programme will allow the university's students to engage in social initiatives while working on their personal and career development skills under the guidance of Casper Foundation. 

Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro-VC of EU, Md. Jamal Uddin, Deputy Director and Head - Career Services & International Office and Office of Student Affairs at EU, Taufiq uz Zaman, CEO and Founder of Casper Foundation, and Tanzila Zaman, General Secretary and Founding Member of Casper Foundation, were all present during the signing ceremony.

 

SEU organises seminar on Digital Bangladesh:  Vision 2021

Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) of Southeast University (SEU) organised a seminar on "Digital Bangladesh: Vision 2021". It was held on February 19, 2017.

Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU chaired the session while Shahriar Manzoor, Asst. Professor & Chairman of CSE Department delivered the opening speech. Shyam Sunder Sikder, Secretary, ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication & Information Technology was the keynote speaker. 

Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Pro-VC, was the designated discussant in the seminar. Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean School of Science and Engineering delivered the vote of thanks.

UIU hosts International Conference on Sustainable Development

United International University (UIU) organised the International Conference on Sustainable Development from February 16-18, 2017. 

This international conference focused on 16 themes: Sustainable Livelihoods, Climate Change Adaptation, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, Renewable Energy, Extreme Poverty Alleviation, Disaster Management, Green Business, Green Banking, Sustainable Finance, Green Cities and Human Settlements, Good Governance, Migration, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, Gender and Development, Coastal Zone Management, Integrated Water Resources Management. The conference accommodated 84 scientific papers from home and abroad for presentation.

The inauguration of the conference took place with Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, Vice Chairperson, BRAC as the inaugural speaker having national and international guests, participants, paper presenters and UIU teachers. UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan chaired the session.

Korean professor meets author at BRACU
