EU Mooting Team wins "Best New Team" award in USA

Eastern University (EU) from Bangladesh scored highest among all other 36 teams appearing for the first time ever in Jessup Law Moot Court Competition 2017 in the international round. They were awarded the "Best New Team" of this year's Jessup held in Washington D. C. 

The winning team of Bangladesh comprises of three students namely Wardi Zaman, Naimur Rahman and Jubaida Sakin under the mentorship of A. B. M. Imdadul Haque Khan and Nahid Rabbi, Assistant Professors of Law, EU. Among the participants Wardi Zaman is a seventh semester student of LL.B (Honors') Program and both Naimur Rahman and Jubaida Sakin are pursuing their LL. M. from EU. 

This recognition is surely deserved and will give the law students an opportunity to spread their wings.

Orientation ceremony of Summer 2017 freshers at NSU

North South University (NSU) warmly welcomed the newly enrolled students of undergraduate and graduate programmes at the Summer 2017 orientation ceremony, held on May 13, 2017 at its Bashundhara campus. 

At the ceremony, 30 meritorious students were awarded full and partial scholarships for their outstanding result in the admission test of Summer 2017, under the NSU scholarship scheme. 

Azim Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, NSU Board of Trustees, delivered speech as the chief guest. The programme was chaired by Prof. Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, NSU.

Prof. G.U. Ahsan, Pro-VC (Designate) and Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, Prof. Mohammad Mahboob Rahman, Dean, School of Business and Economics, Prof. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Md. Shahjahan, Registrar, NSU were present at the occasion.

The programme ended with a cultural session by the students of the university clubs.

Discussion on "The Rule of Law and Democracy" at EWU

Democracy and rule of law are complementary to each other. Without democracy, the rule of law is endangered, as well as democracy without the rule of law is worthless and Bangladesh has no exception toward the system - dignitaries opined at the discussion on "The Rule of Law and Democracy" on 14 May, 2017, at the SM Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery in East West University (EWU). 

The chief guest of the programme was Abu Saleh Sk. Md. Zahirul Haque, Secretary, Law and Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The special guest was Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Hiru, Chairman, Legal Education Committee, Bangladesh Bar Council. The programme was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, EWU. Prof. Dr. Tureen Afroz, Chairperson of Department of Law, EWU delivered welcome remarks on the discussion programme.

BRACU organises Club fair of Summer 2017 

"Club Fair of Summer 2017" of BRAC University (BRACU) was held on 14 May, 2017. This 3-day event was organised by BRACU Economics Club on the theme "Summer Grooves". All student clubs of the university aim to collaborate to welcome the newly admitted students of Summer 2017 semester and showcase unique features of each club to attract new members.

The fair was inaugurated by Dr. Ansar Ahmed, Director of Institutional Effectiveness, BRACU as the chief guest. Dr. Farzana Munshi, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Social Sciences and Advisor of BRACU Economics Club and Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director, Office of Co-curricular Activities, were also present.

The day ended with Band group 'AvoidRafa' performing, which entertained the students.

The fair had cultural performances, movie screening, food fests, a performance by AvoidRafa and a lot more. Activities by BRACU Monon, Cultural Club, Drama and Theater and Film Club were praiseworthy. The fair was sponsored by General Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Prof. Dr. H. M. Jahirul Haque appointed as VC of ULAB

The Chancellor of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and President of Bangladesh has appointed Prof. Dr. H. M. Jahirul Haque as the new Vice Chancellor of ULAB.

Newly appointed VC Prof. Dr. H. M. Jahirul Haque joined ULAB in 2004 as Professor and Head of Computer Science and Engineering department. He is the fourth VC of ULAB. He is one of the very first full-time faculty members with whom ULAB started its journey. He served as Director, Academic Affairs, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering and Pro-VC in the immediate past.

Prior to joining ULAB, he was Head of Computer Science & Engineering in Leading University, Sylhet. Dr. Haque has a PhD from one of the best-known universities of Ukraine, where he also started his teaching career. He has a strong track record in academic administration. He also has a reputation for being an innovative, efficient and visionary leader. 

IUB Theatre stages drama "Hottomalar Oparey" 

IUB Theatre Club staged its 18th production "Hottomalar Oparey" at the Main Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on May 9, 2017. The play has been written by Badal Sarkar and directed by Saif Suman. Prof. G. M. Shahidul Alam, Patron of IUB Theatre Club and Head of the Department of Media and Communication, IUB was present during the show.

The cast of the play includes Quazi Azib Mahmud, Ahmad Sirajus, Maksudul Hasan, Tawfique Mahmud, Maisha Haque, Faisal, Kiran, Shartaj, Marzan, Shovon, Mohua, Shuchay, Sajib, Shakib, Anim, Rashed, Ayesha, Ashfaque, Pritom. 

SEU organises Admission Carnival for prospective students

For the first time, Southeast University (SEU) organized an "Admission Carnival" May 14-16, 2017 at the Seminar Hall of its main building in Banani. Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU inaugurated the event. 

There was a special discount of 50 percent on admission fees during this carnival. Specialised faculty members were available for counselling on subject choice, career prospects and other academic issues.

SEU was established in 2002. Currently the student enrolment is over 12,000. SEU offers programmes in BBA, MBA (Regular, Executive), Textile Engineering, CSE, Pharmacy, Architecture (IAB accredited), EEE, Economics, Bangla, English, LLB, LLM and MDS.
