NSU celebrates 25 years of excellence in higher education

North South University (NSU) arranged a 3-day long grand ceremony to celebrate the proud achievements in the occasion of its silver jubilee, "Celebrating Excellence in Higher Education" from May 22-24, 2017.

The opening ceremony of the silver jubilee on May 22, 2017 began with a rally, the human formation of the national flag and silver jubilee celebration logo followed by the launching of NSU's theme song, performed by Bappa Majumder, Konal and NSU students, a cultural programme by Confucius Institute at NSU. The second session started with a discussion where Hasanul Haq Inu MP, Minister of Information, graced the event as the chief guest and Prof. Dr. Gowher Rizvi, International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, attended as the guest of honour. Dance performance by Api Karim and her group, musical performance by Samina Chowdhury and Kumar Biswajit and a laser show were carried out to finally end the night.

Celebrations for May 23, 2017 included performances by NSU clubs and Miles were scheduled for the first session of the day, followed by a screening of the film "Putul Kotha", a joint production of NSU and University of Manitoba, Canada for the second session. The Alumni event in the third session included Alumni get-together, where seventeen distinguished Alumni members were awarded. Nasrul Hamid MP, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, was present as chief guest. Musical performances by Elita, Topu and friends, Emil, dance performances by Shompriti and her group and stand-up comedy by Yafi were scheduled for the night.

The closing ceremony on May 24, 2017 included discussions, honouring of distinguished individuals, dance performances by Mou and her group. Tofail Ahmed MP, Minister of Commerce, was the chief guest and Hossain Toufique Imam, Political Adviser to the Prime Minister graced the event as the guest of honour.

IUB holds Alumni Job Fair 2017 

The Office of the Career Guidance and Placement of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a daylong Alumni Job Fair 2017 on May 23, 2017 for its students and graduates at university's own campus in Bashundhara. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.

IUB alumni who have now become entrepreneurs and employers participated in the Job Fair. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB; Md. Abdullah Iqbal, Deputy Director, Career Guidance and Placement, IUB and 20 IUB alumni and presently owners of various companies introduced themselves and spoke during the inaugural ceremony.

Main objectives of organising and implementing this Job Fair were to create ample opportunities for IUB students and graduates to know about various organisations in Bangladesh that are owned by IUB alumni and secondly, to provide opportunity for participating companies to select promising professionals who can really become the assets for these institutions.

A total number of 34 companies and organisations took part in the Job Fair. Maasranga Television, The Daily Star, Colors Radio FM and Bikroy.com were the media partners of this event.

Freshers' orientation at EDU

Orientation programme for the students of Summer 2017 session at East Delta University (EDU), Chittagong was held at its permanent campus in the city's Nasirabad area.

Addressing as the chief guest, EDU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sikandar Khan said the new students will establish themselves in the fields of professional life through securing excellent result in academic life.

Comedian Naveed Mahbub was present as the orientation speaker at the programme and delivered an inspirational speech for the newly enrolled students.

EDU Associate Dean Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazim Uddin presided over the programme which was also addressed by EDU Vice Chairman Sayeed Al Noman, Registrar Sajal Barua, Planning and Development Director Shafayet Chowdhury, Associate Prof. Mohammad Rakibul Kabir, Lecturer Tasmeem Chowdhury Bonhi among others.

UIU organises Orientation Programme for Summer 2017

United International University (UIU) organised a two-day long orientation programme for the newly admitted students of Summer 2017 trimester at the UIU Auditorium. Newly admitted students in the School of Business & Economics and School of Science and Engineering participated in the colourful orientation programme.

UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, presided over the ceremonies while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman; Prof. Dr. Md. Musa, School of Business & Economics; Prof. Dr. Mir Obaidur Rahman, Dept. of Economics; MBA Program Coordinator Dr. Badruzza Miya; BBA Program Director, Dr. Joarder Md. Hasanur Raihan; EEE Head, Prof. Dr. Md. Raqibul Mostafa; CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam; Registrar Prof. A.S.M. Salahuddin, spoke on the programmes. Treasurer, Heads of different departments, teachers, guardians, students and the invited guests were present.

Rahimafrooz director speaks at DIU 

Niaz Rahim, Group Director, Rahimafrooz (Bangladesh) Ltd. spoke at the 9th phase of Daffodil International University Industry Academia Lecture Series on "Entrepreneurship towards Diversity" on May 27, 2017 at DIU Milanayoton 71.

Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, Daffodil International University (DIU) delivered the welcome address in the programme. The event was also addressed by Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahabub-Ul-Islam, VC, DIU; Prof. Dr. S M Mahbub-Ul Islam, Pro-VC; and Md. Abu Taher Khan, Director, Innovation and Incubation Center (IIC). Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Student Affairs, conducted the programme.

Niaz Rahim also said that to get the success in the business, your company policy should have to be customer-based and you must have to emphasis on your customer's benefits and choices and you have to realise that customer is your family member.

The lectures of these 12 successful entrepreneurs will be compiled and published as a book which will act as a reference book for the students of Business Administration, Economics and Entrepreneurship Development department.

BYLC launches BBLT programme

Building Bridges through Leadership Training (BBLT) is BYLC's 10-week long signature leadership training programme. The curriculum for the programme draws heavily from leadership courses taught at Harvard University. It challenges students to critically think about leadership and apply their skills to effectuate positive changes in society. Students conduct experiments, take risks, and question deeply held assumptions in the classroom and have the opportunity to translate their learning into action by implementing community service projects in underprivileged communities.

Eligibility: HSC/A level/Alim students; First and second-year undergraduate students from any accredited universities and madrasas in Bangladesh

Dates: September 10 – November 30, 2017

Location: Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dhaka

Timing: 3 PM - 6 PM, every day from Sunday to Thursday (no class on weekends)

Registration fee: BDT 6000
