IQAC of SMUCT organises workshop on outcome-based curriculum
Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) held a daylong workshop programme based on outcome-oriented curriculum at Creative Hub, located at Uttara on July 27, 2017.
The programme began with a speech delivered by chief guest Prof. Dr. Quazi Md. Mafizur Rahman, VC of Shanto-Mariam University. In his speech, he addressed the importance of outcome-based education concept to develop effective teaching, career, and motto of education. A technical session was also held by the key speaker, Prof. Dr. Sarwar Jahan. Also present in the programme was Architect Hosneara Rahman, Registrar of SMUCT, along with the university's teachers and high officials.
The technical session was followed by a series of open discussions and recommendations by the participants of the working sessions. The programme ended with the announcement of Associate Professor AFM Mohiuddin Ahmed, Head of Interior and Architecture Department, SMUCT and a vote of thanks by Md. Anwarul Hoque.
WUB holds information session on admission at PEIU, Canada
World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organised an information session on admission in the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at Prince Edward Island University, (PEIU), Canada on July 26, 2017 at the auditorium of WUB main campus. The ceremony was graced by VC Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury as chief guest while Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Associate Professor, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, PEIU, Canada was present as keynote speaker. Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-VC, WUB presided over the session. Senior administrative officers of WUB along with Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members and students were also present in this programme.
Dr. Samanta delivers speech at DIU
Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, a renowned social entrepreneur and Founder Chancellor of KIIT University (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) and Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS), Odisha, India delivered keynote speech at a seminar on "Social Entrepreneurship" at Daffodil International University (DIU) on July 27, 2017. JP Mukherjee, First Secretary of Indian High Commission in Dhaka was present as the special guest. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU presided over the seminar.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed between Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) and Daffodil Institute of Social Science (DISS) regarding mutual cooperation of formal education.
IUB English Debate Club wins UIU tournament
IUB English Debate Club has become champions at the United International University (UIU) English Debate Tournament held at the UIU campus in Dhanmondi, from July 21-22, 2017. The top ranked team of IUB consisted of Tahsin Islam, Zobayer Ahmed, AI Faruque Ratul and Sajid Safwan.
The team took on and defeated representatives from institutions such as University of Dhaka and IBA in the closing stages of the tournament. Over 20 of the most prestigious institutions of the country took part in the competition where topics ranged from international relations, human rights and unique problems relevant to Bangladeshi societies. Eventually, it was the team of IUB that went all the way to the grand finale to clinch the championship trophy.
ULAB holds seminar on Indian economy, education and employment
School of Business of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar titled "Knowing India: Economy, Education and Employment" on July 30, 2017 at ULAB Auditorium.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Masood Ahmed, a distinguished professor of Healthcare Management and a visiting professor in more than 300 educational institutes in India and abroad, was present as keynote speaker.
In his speech, Dr. Ahmed presented various data about the Indian economy and showed how the country had progressed over time. The seminar commenced with the welcome speech by Prof. Imran Rahman, Dean of ULAB School of Business. At the end, there was a Q&A session.
EWU launches Department of Sociology
The maiden journey of a new "Department of Sociology" began with an inaugural ceremony at East West University (EWU) on July 29, 2017 at EWU, Aftabnagar. Md. Sohorab Hossain, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Education Ministry was the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank. A cultural programme was also performed on the occasion.
AIUB holds training for IQAC directors
Recently, 40 IQAC Directors, Additional Directors and UGC-QAU visited the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) in connection with the training of these officials from 18 public and private universities. The organisers of this training, headed by Prof. Sanjoy, for these newly designated IQAC Directors and Additional Directors selected AIUB, representing the private universities, and University of Dhaka on behalf of the public universities, for the needed orientation on how AIUB operates its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in promoting quality assurance at the university level.
VC Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna warmly welcomed all the visitors and participants in the Conference Room of the new permanent campus. The IQAC orientation was conducted by Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Pro-VC of AIUB, Director, IQAC through a video presentation of the AIUB journeys in quality assurance which started in 2007, brief presentation on the utilisation of data generated from the self-assessment activities of the programme entities based on the 9 areas assessed by the 5 stakeholders: students, faculty, alumni, non-academic and employers.
