DIU VC attends IUCEL 2017 in Malaysia

Daffodil International University (DIU) participated at the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL 2017) organised by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in collaboration with the Malaysian e-Learning Council for Public Universities (MEIPTA) and Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, held during September 26-27, 2017.  DIU is the international partner in organising the carnival. 

A 6-member team led by Prof. Dr. Yusuf M Islam, VC, DIU attended the carnival. Prof. Islam delivered a keynote presentation on "Humanising Technology" in IUCEL as an expert panelist. Five posters submitted from DIU were placed in the competition out of the 188 entries at the carnival. Surprisingly, all DIU posters won awards at the IUCEL 2017. 

The objective of IUCEL is to serve as a platform to promote, explore, and share best practices and global expertise in e-Learning applications at higher learning institutions all around the world. 

There were many activities in the carnival such as exhibition on e-learning technology, best practices and product updates including software, courseware, e-Learning management system (LMS) and systems. Exhibition from industries also took place at the carnival.


ULAB organises Freshers' Orientation for Fall 2017

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised Freshers' orientation programme for its fall intake on September 28, 2017 at the university's Dhanmondi campus. The orientation consisted of mixed media and video presentations about ULAB's vision, mission, code of conduct, handbook, library, career services and other facilities. 

In the formal part of the ceremony, Introduction to ULAB was presented by ULAB BOT Member Juditha Ohlmacher. ULAB VC Prof. H.M. Jahirul Haque delivered his speech to the students right after the presentation. The programme was coordinated by ULAB's Student Affairs Office along with the ULAB Communications Office, with the assistance of ULAB clubs Shangskriti Shangsad and Theatre ULAB. Heads of all departments, faculty members and admin members were also present in the ceremony. In the informal part of the ceremony, representatives of different clubs of ULAB were present in the episode of "Proud to be ULABian". Ariful Hoque, Deputy Manager of ULAB Communications welcomed everyone and moderated this session. 


IUBAT celebrates World Tourism Day 2017 

The College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) celebrated World Tourism Day 2017 in a befitting manner to integrate with global initiative through United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)'s declared theme for 2017: "Sustainable Tourism - a Tool for Development".

The programme started with a colourful rally participated by the faculty members and students of the university which was arranged by Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, with the presence of Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon. The formal part took place in the afternoon at IUBAT Open Auditorium. Zinnat Shanu Shawgota, actor and model of the campaign "Beautiful Bangladesh" graced the occasion as chief guest and Md. Alamgir Hossain, Head of Operations, Platinum Hotels by SHELTECH was the special guest who is a proud alumnus of the department.

Prof. Dr. M A Jabber, Registrar of IUBAT presided over the ceremony and highlighted the importance of the day and role of IUBAT in promoting tourism in the country by introducing Bachelor of Arts in Tourism and Hospitality Management (BATHM) degree for the first time in the history of Bangladesh. Mohammad Abu Horaira, Coordinator, College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) delivered the welcome speech. 

The programme was successfully associated with IUBAT Placement Office and supported by the members of IUBAT Tourism and Hospitality Management Society (ITHMS).


Fast Track Education Services organises "Malaysia Education Lead Meet 2017"

Since its inception in 2015, "Malaysia Education Lead Meet" - a flagship event of Fast Track Education Services - has proven to be a successful and effective higher education event within in a very short time. The event is highly praised by our partner universities and more importantly by students and their parents, especially because it promotes better understanding about Malaysian education system, higher education institutes, their rankings and recognition and about student life in Malaysia. 

This year, Malaysia Education Lead Meet will be held on October 6-7, 2017 at Four Points by Sheraton, Gulshan 2, Dhaka. The following universities will participate in the event this year: Curtin University, Heriot-Watt University, INTI International University, Monash University, Nottingham University and Swinburne University of Technology. 

Each day the event will begin at 3.30 PM with a seminar given by representatives of the participating universities. Attendees will learn about universities, campuses, programmes, rankings, tuition fees, accommodation and other relevant information. Following that, participants will be able to talk to the representatives one to one.

BRACU hosts 1st inter university chess championship

SHITAB MUSHFIQ-UL ISLAM

The Berger 1st Inter-university Chess Championship started on September 25, 2017, with 20 teams from 15 universities of Bangladesh hosted by BRAC University Chess Club. 

The 3 days of intense matches took place in the auditorium of BRAC University (BRACU), where all the best chess players from the universities all over Bangladesh were under the same roof. Many teams had internationally rated players on their sides, where on the other hand some had rookie players with no competitive experience whatsoever. In spite of all that, all the teams brought their best game and were equally matched up in the competition. After the matches, Jahangirnagar University was crowned the champions. The runners-up BRAC University Red Team were behind by just 1 game point.

Through this event, the organisers of BRAC University Chess Club were hoping to promote chess on a wider scale. Inspiring the youth, chess aims to form a smarter group of leaders and create minds that can outthink conundrums. Making a career, exercising minds, solving problems, representing your country on the international stage is just a glimpse of the future that the game has to offer. In the end, we all wish to excel no matter which career we choose or what sport we play and hope all pieces will fall in the right places.


EU holds orientation programmes for Fall 2017

The orientation ceremonies for the students of undergraduate and graduate programmes of the Fall 2017 semester of Eastern University (EU) were held on October 2, 2017. Engr. Md. Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, President, Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) graced the occasion as the chief guest in the undergraduate ceremony and Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT of EU in the graduate ceremony. 

Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of EU presided over the programmes while Abul Khair Chowdhury, former Chairman, BOT, EU; Md. Ali Azzam, Member, BOT, EU were present as Special guests. Among others, Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, EU; Deans; Chairpersons; members of alumni; teachers and officials of EU also spoke on the occasion.

The chief guests congratulated the newly admitted students and shared their success stories in the education and corporate sectors. They shared their experience and encouraged the students to put in their best efforts to prepare themselves for successful careers. VC of EU Prof. Rab outlined the facilities and opportunities provided by the university for the students of EU and inspired them to gain knowledge in the class rooms and gather experience through participation in extra/co-curricular activities.
