BACS-BUBT National Programming Camp 2017 comes to an end

BACS-BUBT National Programming Camp 2017, organised by the Dept. of CSE, BUBT, and BUBT IT Club, in association with Bangladesh Advanced Computing Society (BACS), ended on October 8, 2017 campus of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology  (BUBT), Mirpur in Dhaka. Dr. M. Kaykobad, Professor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was present as the  chief guest in the closing ceremony of the camp while AFM Sarwar Kamal, Chairman, BUBT Trust and Md. Shakhwat Ahamed, Head of Marketing, Pran Foods Ltd. graced the occasion as special guests.

Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC of BUBT, inaugurated the workshop and thanked participants for attending the programming camp. A total of 249 students from 45 different public and private universities attended the camp through a contest where approximately 1200 students fought to win the card.

Prof. Enayet Hossain Mian, Tresurer, BUBT; Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, Registrar, BUBT; Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT; AHM Azmal Hossain, Joint Registrar, BUBT; Prof. Ameer Ali, Chairman of CSE Department, BUBT; Md. Saifur Rahman, Asst. Prof, BUBT were present among others in the sessions.

At the end of the programme chief guest, Chairman of BUBT Trust, and VC of BUBT handed over certificates among participants and awards among contest winners. The camp was inaugurated by the Chairman of BUBT Trust, AFM Sarwar Kamal, and visited by prominent writer and ICT expert Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Prof. M Kaykobad.

UIU holds orientation programme for Fall 2017

A 2-day long orientation programme was held for the newly admitted students of Fall 2017 trimester at the UIU Auditorium. Newly admitted students in the School of Business & Economics and School of Science and Engineering participated in the colourful orientation programme.

UIU Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman presided over the ceremonies while Dean, School of Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Golam Azam; EEE Head, Dr. Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury; CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam; BBA Program Director, Dr. Joarder Md. Hasanur Raihan; MBA Program Coordinator, Dr. Badruzza Miya; Registrar Prof. ASM Salahuddin; and Director, Student Affairs, Md. Manjurul Haque Khan spoke on the event. Heads of different departments, teachers, guardians, students and the invited guests were present in the programme.

 

IUB becomes champion in national inter-university debate tournament

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) became champion in National Inter-University Debate Tournament 2017 organised by Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS). On the way to clinch the title, IUB defeated the defending champion Chittagong University and two other top tier teams from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Dhaka University. The tournament was held in British Parliamentary format during the last week of September 2017.

The victorious team was made up of Tahsin Islam, a student of the School of Business and Md. Abdullah Al Faruque Ratul, from the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Tahsin Islam was given the Best Speaker Award of the final.

The prize giving ceremony had the esteemed presence of renowned debaters and illustrious faculty members of various universities. The chief adjudicators of the tournament were Fardeen Ameen, Chair of Bangladesh Debating Council; Tamzid Azad, founder of Performance Enhancing Debates; Adel Mostaque Ahmed, from IBA-DU, and Boddrudoza Jewel, from CUDS.

 

DIU arranges series of motivational sessions for students

To create human norms and values, employability skill and entrepreneurial behaviour among the students of Daffodil International University (DIU), a series of motivational sessions titled "Art of Living"  "Employability Skills" and "Entrepreneurial Behaviour" was arranged on October 7, 2017. 

Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU was the facilitator of the classes. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director of Students' Affairs; Syed Maruf Reza, Head, Department of Entrepreneurship; Mohammad Shibli Shahriar, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration; Md. Ejaj-Ur-Rahman, Lecturer, Department of Business Administration, and many other faculty members were also present at the classes. 

While talking about "Entrepreneurial Behaviour", Khan explained this term as well as guided what kind of behaviour or virtues should be upheld by a new entrepreneur. He taught students to develop a proper business plan. He also said that in Bangladesh there are plenty of opportunities which are scattered around, such as seed business, roof top gardening, etc. He advised students to pick up one opportunity and to start now to shape their careers.

 

WUB VC leaves for Dubai to attend int'l conference

Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, VC, World University of Bangladesh (WUB) has left Dhaka for Dubai, UAE to attend the 24th International Conference of International Academy of Management & Business. 

He will present a paper entitled "In Pursuit of Quality Higher Education in Bangladesh" and will chair a session of the conference. He is the lone participant from Bangladesh and his paper has also been included for the award competition in overall paper and applied paper categories. Teachers and researchers from China, Greece, Portugal, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, USA, Taiwan, Iran, India, Pakistan, Germany, Lebanon, Italy, France, Switzerland, Indonesia, Barbados, Jamaica and Japan are participating in the said conference. 

 

UAP appoints new Director of Department of Law & Human Rights

Salahuddin Ahmad, former Attorney General for Bangladesh joined as Director of the Department of Law & Human Rights (Law & HR) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP). Ahmad graduated with Honours from London School of Economics and Political Science and later, obtained an LLM degree from Columbia University, USA. 

He had joined Department of Economics, Dhaka University (DU) in January 1971 as Assistant Professor and taught there for a number of years. Later, he also taught at IBA of DU and had worked for UNDP before switching to legal profession. 

He was appointed as an Additional Attorney General in 2007 and the Attorney General for Bangladesh in 2008. Before joining Department of Law & HR of UAP, Ahmad was the Chief Executive Officer (MD) of KAFCO.
