EU successfully organises Club Carnival 2017

Eastern University (EU) celebrated "Club Carnival 2017" on November 26, at EU campus, Dhanmondi to promote extra-curricular activities. The carnival was inaugurated by A. K. Azad, former President of FBCCI, Chairman & CEO of Ha-Meem Group. The Chairman of EU BOT, Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed; VC of EU, Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam along with former Chairman of BOT Md. Azizul Islam; Abul Khair Chowdhury; Members of BOT; Registrar; Deans; Chairpersons; faculty members and officials graced the occasion with their presence.

The objective of the carnival was to motivate students to participate in extra-curricular activities so that they can bring innovation, diversity and harmony in their ideas. The carnival was celebrated through daylong diverse activities by 16 clubs and forums such as seminar, debate, drama, cultural programme, blood grouping camp, photographs and projects, and entrepreneurship and social services. There was a seminar on "Role of Co-curricular Activities in Higher Education" where A. K. Azad praised the initiative taken by EU.

ULAB students receive Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award

ULAB's 20 students have recently attended the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh's (DEA) Gold Award ceremony at the residence of the British High Commissioner, Dhaka on November 19, 2017. The Countess of Wessex presented the Award to Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to ULAB's BOT representing the ULAB DEA Programme. High Commissioner of British High Commission to Bangladesh, Alison Blake hosted the programme. Twenty ULAB students received the prestigious Gold Award, for the recognition of their activities over one year under DEA. They had to take part actively in developing personal, social and volunteering skills as well as taking a survival lesson through an adventure trip.

Amongst the private universities, ULAB has the highest DEA enrollment. The students can receive 3 awards - Bronze, Silver and the Gold as they progress through the programme. Last year, 17 ULAB students had received the Gold award. 

The DEA programme helps students in receiving scholarships from all over the world, getting preference in job market worldwide, involvement with international organisations as well as connecting them with the international network of awardees.

BRACU Residential Campus initiates cleanliness programme at National Memorial

BRAC University Residential Campus (Savar) took the initiative to start a programme in order to clean up the premises of the national monument. Each semester, approximately 100 to 150 students, faculty and officials participate in this unique programme. The main objective of the event is to make the students realise the spirit of patriotism and develop a sense of pride in their ability to contribute to their own country while taking responsibility and direct action towards positive change. Continuing this tradition in Fall 2017, the students of BRACU Residential Campus took part in this clean-up programme on November 17, 2017.

A total of 120 students along with the faculty and staff cleaned the National Memorial premises. At a certain point, general sightseers who went there to visit the site, were highly motivated by observing the action of BRACU students and joined in hand in hand with the students.

 

DIU Chairman delivers keynote speech at 16th AUPF 2017

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, represented Daffodil International University (DIU) in the 16th Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) held during November 21-23, 2017 at Philippine Normal University, the National Center for Teacher Education, Manila, Philippines. He presented his views on the process adopted and approach taken to harness employability skills of the graduates of Bangladesh to meet industry requirement, in line of the increasing need of globalisation.

His keynote note speech on "Industry-University Collaboration:  A Way for Innovation and Employment" was greatly appreciated in the forum. Dr. Khan also submitted his paper titled "Employability 360 Degree for Ensuring Employment: Case Study of Daffodil International University" in the Forum's proceedings. More than 200 delegates from more than 20 countries participated the AUPF this year.

DIU has also proposed to the AUPF Secretariat to host the Asian University Presidents Forum in 2019 in Daffodil International University, Bangladesh.

NSU hosts Career Fair 2017 in campus

In today's competitive market, there is a special emphasis on practical and external knowledge in the world renowned universities and so, North South University (NSU) organised "Career Fair 2017" at its campus on November 27, 2017.

Prof. G.U. Ahsan, Pro-VC (Designate), NSU chaired the inaugural session and Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, President, FBCCI attended as the chief guest. Benazir Ahmed, former Chairman of NSU Trust Board, Prof. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, and Farhana Zahir, Director, Career and Placement Center, NSU were also present in the opening ceremony.

Sixty foreign and local companies participated which included Standard Chartered Bank, Grameenphone, British American Tobacco, ACI, BSRM, BRAC, bKash, Bashundhara Group, Banglalink, Anwar Group, Foodpanda, Green Delta, Apex, Asiatic, The Daily Star, etc. Representatives from the organisations provided students, job seekers and guests with all necessary information on the benefits of their workplace andopportunities. Some of the companies even offered recruitment for their matching posts.

After the opening ceremony, guests visited various stalls. Networking sessions aimed at introducing students and job-seekers with top employers of different organisations helped the job seekers get an idea about their future careers.

 

IUB holds seminar on "Challenges for Media in Bangladesh"

The department of Media and Communication at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar entitled, "Challenges for Media in Bangladesh" on November 23, 2017 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The resource person and key speaker was the eminent senior journalist and media personality, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Editor in Chief and CEO, Ekushey Television. 

Prof. M Omar Rahman, VC, IUB, graced the occasion as the chief guest and Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB, delivered the inaugural speech. Prof. Zakir Hossain Raju, Head, Department of Media and Communication, IUB, delivered the welcome speech and explained the objectives of organising the series of this type of events.

Bulbul made an in-depth presentation on "Challenges for media in Bangladesh" where he mentioned that the media should uphold the rights of the people and should work for the eventual wellbeing of the nation. Following the presentation, floor was open for Q&A session where both students and faculties participated enthusiastically.
