EWU wins award at Digital World 2017

East West University (EWU) won the Digital World 2017 award for its contribution to the information and technology sectors in 2017. EWU is the only private university to have won this award from the educational sector. Prof. Dr. Mozammel Huq Azad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, EWU received the award at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the Digital World 2017 closing ceremony on December 9, 2017 on behalf of EWU. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith MP handed over the crest to Prof. Khan. The State Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP presided over the function.

In recent years, East West University has increased its use of information technology. The university accepts admission applications and conducts a range of operations through online systems. The procurement system of the university is carried out by the e-tendering process. The library of EWU has more than one hundred e-books. A special software is also used by the university for coordinating the work of its various departments offices.

Team Icons of NSU  wins Econ Prodigy 3.0

The grand finale of Econ Prodigy 3.0, the flagship event by Young Economists' Forum (YEF), was held on December 10, 2017 at the university premises. The five finalists presented their full-fledged policies on the topic "Decentralisation: Rejoin the Urban Map of Bangladesh?" The competing teams answered to questions by the panel of judges.  

Mohammad Sayeed Khokhon, Mayor, Dhaka South City Corporation was the chief guest for the event and Benajir Ahmed, Member, BOT, NSU attended the event as the guest of honour. The event was also graced by Prof. Dr. M Mahboob Rahman, Dean, School of Business and Economics, NSU; Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Treasurer, NSU; Mominul Islam, Managing Director, IPDC Finance Limited, and Kazi Mashiur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, Mercantile Bank Limited, who were special guests; as well as session chair Prof. Dr. G. U. Ahsan, Pro-VC (Designate) & VC (In-charge), NSU. 

After highly impressive performances from all the teams, team Icons of NSU was crowned winners of Econ Prodigy 3.0, receiving a prize money of BDT 100,000. The first runner-up was team Led Zeppelin of BRAC University, who received BDT 50,000, and the second runner-up was team Defenders from Dhaka University, who received BDT 25,000. 

IUB distributes Academic Awards among 146 students

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) distributed Academic Awards among its meritorious students through a ceremony held today at the university's own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. VC Prof. M. Omar Rahman, along with the Pro-VC Prof. Milan Pagon, and Registrar Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Md Anwarul Islam, distributed the awards in a delightful gathering.

The awards were given in two different categories. Students in Vice Chancellor's honour list received BDT 10,000 each and students in Dean's honour list received BDT 5,000 each for their accomplishments. A total of 146 students from senior, junior, sophomore and freshmen received the awards. 

Every year, students of the university are given scholarships and awards in the form of partial and total tuition waivers and other forms of financial benefits which also include award for purchasing books. During this fiscal year, IUB is awarding about 10 crore Taka as financial aid. Apart from this, the university, under its campus job scheme, provides part-time jobs to students in various schools, registrar's office, libraries and other departments/offices. 

Deans and Heads of different Schools and Departments, members of the faculty and administration, parents and guardians and a full house students were present in the ceremony. 

 

DIU holds ETE Alumni Homecoming and Reunion 2017

ETE Alumni Homecoming and Reunion 2017 was held on December 8, 2017 at Ashulia Permanent campus of Daffodil International University (DIU). Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering organised the programme. Prof. Dr. M Golam Maowla Choudhury, Controller of Examinations, DIU was present as the chief guest at the programme. 

Presided over by Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque, the function was also addressed by Prof. Md. Khairul Enam, Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering; Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chief Technical Officer, Ollo Wireless Internet; Mustafa Hossain, Chief Operating Officer, Voice Tel Ltd.; Md. Shamim Ahmed, President, DIU ETE Alumni Association; and Tasnuva Ali, Convener of DIU ETE Alumni Homecoming and Reunion 2017. The programme was conducted by Sirajum Munira, Lecturer, Department of ETE. 

Alumni members of ETE Department of DIU were honoured for their outstanding contribution in the country and society and handed over ETE Alumni Excellence Award 2017. The award recipients are Mohua Afroz, who stood 7th (Admin Cadre) in 34th BCS; Harunur Rashid, Assistant Vice President, Eastern Bank Ltd.; Md. Shamim Ahmed, Manager, R&T, Bangla Tel; Atunu Debnath, Manager, Ollo Wireless Internet; Major Al Maimun, Kuwait (Defence); Md. Abu Saleh, Venus Telecommunication; and entrepreneur Md. Dabirul Islam Dipu. 

The day long programme included bus rally, pitha utshab, blood donation drive, discussion, tree plantation, games and sports, raffle draw, picnic and live concert. 

 

EU organises CSE Fest 2017

Eastern University Computing Club (EUCC) arranged the annual event "CSE FEST 2017" on December 3, 2017. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, VC (Acting) of Eastern University (EU). Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dewan Amana Sultana, Controller of Examinations; Mohammad Imtiaj, Director of Public Relations Office and Faculties of E&T were present. 

The "30th Intra-University Programming Contest" was also a part of the event. Besides the programming contest, the daylong event also included various fun games and contest such as idea contest, project showcasing, robot football, chess, table tennis, carom, ludo, quiz competition, typing contest, etc. A cultural event was part of the festivities where students performed songs and dance numbers.

After the festivities, there was a "Digital World 2017 Activation Seminar" and the award giving ceremony. Dr. M. Kaykobad, Professor, Department of CSE, BUET was present as the chief guest. Muhammed Siddique Hossain, Treasurer, and Abul Basher Khan were present as the special guests. The guests presented the winners and participators of the contests and games with prizes.

 

IUBAT hosts IT  Fest Fall 2017

On December 5, 2017, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised IT Fest Fall 2017. 

The ceremony began with the recitation from the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem and a minute of silence for the departed souls of late VC Prof. Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan and Pro-VC Mahmuda Khanum. The guests then delivered their speeches to the participants and students. 

It was a day long festival with major events like CSE programming contest titled "Battle of Intellects" which took place with 120 participants. There were robotics, KBAD (knowledge based area development), and project showcasing done by Computer Science and Engineering students, and quiz for freshers of Fall 2017.  There were also a scavenger hunt covering IUBAT field and "Campus Life at IUBAT", a photography contest. Also, there was a movie show that took place in the conference room.

The festival concluded with the prize giving ceremony in the conference room of IUBAT.
