BUBT Trust nominates Prof. Siddique as new chairman
Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Siddique has been nominated as the Chairman of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) Trust on March 1, 2018.
Prof. Siddique joined the Faculty of Commerce, University of Dhaka, as a Lecturer in 1974 securing 1st Class in both Honours and Masters Examinations. He was promoted to the rank of Assistant and then Associate Professor in 1986 and 1993 respectively. He has been working as Professor in the Department of Accounting at the same University since 2005. Besides working at DU, he taught at Brunei University from 1988 to 1992 as an Assistant Professor. He completed his Ph.D. on Industrial Management from Brunel University, UK. He also completed M.Sc. in Finance Management in 1978 from Southampton University, UK. He has been leading Dhaka Commerce College since 1998 as the Chairman of its Governing Body. He piloted Bangabandhu Memorial Trust as its founder Secretary. He is the former Chairman of the Bureau of Business Research of DU. He holds the prestigious life Membership of Bangla Academy and is the father of Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, a British Parliamentarian.
EU holds Freshers' Reception for Spring 2018
The Freshers' Reception for the students of undergraduate and graduate programmes of the Spring semester 2018 of Eastern University (EU) was held on March 3, 2018 at the permanent campus of the University. Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Engr. Khan Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BOT, EU was present as the guest of honour. Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, VC of EU presided over the programme. Among others, Members of the BOT and Eastern University Foundation; Treasurer; Registrar; Deans; Chairpersons; teachers; officials; Presidents and Secretaries of different Clubs and Forums of EU were present on the occasion.
Prof. Abdul Mannan congratulated the newly admitted students and shared EU's success stories in the education and corporate sectors. In his speech, the VC of EU Prof. Nurul Islam thanked the students, parents and guardians for putting their faith and trust in EU authority.
ULAB signs MoU with Mid-Western University of Nepal
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) signed an MoU with Mid-Western University (MWU) of Surkhet, Nepal on February 27, 2018. MWU is an autonomous and public institution of higher learning with the mission to serve the people of Nepal and enrich the global learning community by extending the advantages of higher education. Prof. Dr. Upendra Kumar Koirala, VC of MWU signed the papers on behalf of MWU. Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, signed on behalf of ULAB. The signing took place at the Chancellery of ULAB, Dhanmondi campus.
By signing the MoU, ULAB and MWU have agreed to initiate and strengthen educational links between the two institutions through educational and academic interchanges. These exchanges include faculty exchange; visiting scholars between ULAB and MWU; short-term student exchange programmes, summer/winter school programmes for students; dual-degree programmes; collaborative research and publication; joint conferences; exchange of administrative personnel; joint cultural programmes; credit transfer, etc.

IUB organises Job Fair 2018
The Office of the Career Guidance and Placement of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) organised a day-long Job Fair on February 28, 2018 for its students and graduates at the university campus in Bashundhara. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB, inaugurated the Fair as the chief guest. This year, IUB is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and it was the biggest Job Fair IUB has ever organised.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB; and Md. Abdullah Iqbal, Deputy Director, Career Guidance and Placement, IUB spoke during the inaugural ceremony.
The main objectives of organising and implementing this Job Fair were to create ample opportunities for IUB students and graduates to know about various companies and organisations in Bangladesh, and to take them through the operational procedure of participating institutions – their vision, mission and values and create avenues towards obtaining suitable jobs and crafting desired professional careers.
A total number of 49 multinational and national companies and organisations took part in the Job Fair. They presented 56 different stalls, collected significant number of CVs and offered jobs to many IUB graduates.
NSU becomes part of CFA Institute University Affiliation Programme
North South University (NSU) has become the first private university in Bangladesh to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Programme. The Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance programme has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the programme. This programme positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognised investment credential in the world.
Entry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Programme signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that NSU curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this programme, NSU is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Programme each year.
It is mentionable that a team of NSU students won the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Bangladesh 2017-18. They will be representing the country in the Asia Pacific Regional Final to be held in Malaysia.
Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh visits AIUB
H. E. Panpimon Suwannapongse, Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh visited AIUB on March 1, 2018. She was greeted by Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, VC of AIUB. Later, accompanied by the VC, the Ambassador inaugurated the newly-built Buddhist Prayer Room at the permanent campus, for which the Royal Thai Embassy has generously donated a statue of Lord Buddha. The Ambassador personally handed over the statue to Dr. Lamagna on the occasion. After the inauguration, the Ambassador was given a brief tour of the campus by the VC.
Along with students of Buddhist faith, Vice President, Academics; Dean In-charge, Faculty of Science and IT; Deans, Faculty of Engineering & Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Academic and Non-Academic Directors; and officials of AIUB were also present on the occasion. On behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, the Second Secretary Kalthira Koompirochana accompanied the Ambassador.
