Global Money Week 2018 campaign concludes at British Council

The closing ceremony of Global Money Week 2018 was held on March 18, 2018 at the British Council. This year the event was celebrated with different programmes with the theme "Money Matters Matter". The closing ceremony included a formal discussion session which was attended by the partner organisations and followed by a business game activity for the secondary school students, facilitated by ACCA Bangladesh.

The ceremony started with the welcome note by Dr. Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil International University (DIU). Faye Nicholls, Teaching Centre Manager, British Council; Rezaul Karim, DGM, Bangladesh Bank; Syed Waseque Md. Ali, Managing Director, First Security Islami Bank Ltd.; Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hassan, Principal, Daffodil International School; and KM Hasan Ripon, Advisor, Bangladesh Skill Development Institute were present at the ceremony. The week-long campaign was brought to Bangladesh by DIU and Bangladesh Skill Development Institute, the lead partner of Child and Youth Finance International, in association with Bangladesh Bank and sponsored by First Security Islamic Bank Ltd. The British Council, EMK Center, Build Bangladesh, Nagorik TV, Radio Foorti, and Campus TV were the partners of this programme.

In this event, over 15000 students from various schools, colleges, and universities learned how money works, including saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, and entrepreneurship directly.

 

WUB hosts Best Performance Award ceremony

The "Best Performance Award" ceremony of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) was held on March 23, 2018 at the auditorium of WUB. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, VC of the university as chief guest while Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC was present as the chairperson. Registrar Prof. Abdul Salam Molla, on behalf of the university, was the welcome speaker. Deans, Heads of departments, and senior faculty members were also present along with the parents of the awardees.

On this occasion, 32 students received certificates for their outstanding performance of receiving GPA 4 out of 4.

 

EU celebrates Bangladesh's graduation from LDC

Students, teachers, and officials of Eastern University (EU) celebrated Bangladesh's graduation from LDC at its Dhanmondi Campus in the city on March 22, 2018. Hundreds of students, teachers, and officials marched the roads of Dhanmondi and Mirpur Road, carrying festoons and banners, highlighting the achievements of Bangladesh to become eligible for graduating from LDC.

Engr. Kh. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of the BOT, attended a discussion programme following the rally where he urged everyone to do their best to foster the development of nation further. The VC, Treasurer, Registrar, Deans of Schools, Chairpersons of Departments, faculty members, students, and officials attended the programme. A documentary on Bangladesh's path to development was also displayed at the Plaza Area on the occasion.

 

BUBT signs MoU with RNR BAZAR

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) and RNR BAZAR on March 21, 2018 at the university campus in Mirpur, Dhaka regarding academic cooperation, skill development and career opportunities.

Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT and Md. Saifur Rahman Rony, Proprietor, RNR Bazar signed the paper on behalf of the respective parties. Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business; Dr. Md. Harun-or-Rashid, Registrar; A.H.M. Azmal Hossain, Joint Registrar; Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Director, Career Guidance; and Jisan Al Jubair, Asst. Registrar (Public Relations), BUBT were present as part of BUBT. Abu Taleb Khan, Advisor, RNR Bazar was also present in the MoU signing ceremony.

The objective of the initiative is to take note of the commitment of BUBT and RNR BAZAR for accelerating academic cooperation, skill development, and career opportunities through developing human resources in Bangladesh by imparting professional skills in a variety of fields, including internship placement, job placement, and organising different skill development initiatives i.e. workshop, seminar, etc.

Mahidol University, Thailand awards Prof. G.U. Ahsan of NSU

Prof. Gias U Ahsan, Pro-VC (Designate) of North South University (NSU) has been awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award 2017 among the international and national graduate alumni of Mahidol University, Thailand. It is highly prestigious since the selection is based on academic excellence, leadership in research, innovation and development towards society and nation.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Royal Reverb, Bangkok on March 17, 2018 where many high-level academicians, researchers, officials and scientists were present. NSU BOT Chairman Mohammed Shajahan attended the ceremony as special invitee.

Prof. Ahsan had also been working as the Technical Advisor to Regional Director, WHO South East Asia Region and has been contributing for more than 28 years as senior academician and researcher.

Many other prestigious international and national research and training programmes have been awarded to Prof. Ahsan as project leader.

 

BRACU launches country's first "Empathy Lab"

BRAC University (BRACU) together with Ashoka Innovators for the Public and Toru Pvt. Ltd. announced the launch of Bangladesh's first "Empathy Lab" at a press conference in the university's Mohakhali campus auditorium on March 25, 2018.

The Empathy Lab plans to address the fact that Bangladesh needs to build entrepreneurial mindset amongst its children and young population. The programme will help bring mindset shift of different stakeholders around the skills young people need in changing times.

The programme has a vision to prepare children and youngsters for a world that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges and everyone has the freedom, confidence, and social support to drive positive change. 

The establishment of this lab aims to initiate an ecosystem building process that values and supports students to be changemakers by enabling them to build the critical skills of empathy amongst school students, and in turn developing a framework where BRACU students can learn and practice the skills of empathy, sophisticated teamwork, creative problem solving and collaborative leadership to solve complex social problems.
