EWU holds CSE Fest 2018

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of East West University (EWU) arranged a 4-day long festival "CSE Fest 2018" and a number of events to mark its 21st anniversary. The event included a grand rally, IT quiz contest, programming contest, gaming contest, project contest, seminar, prize giving ceremony and cultural programme. The festival began with a rally at EWU premises on May 10, 2018 at Aftabnagar, Dhaka and was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank.  

The CSE Fest 2018 ended with the closing ceremony on May 13, 2018. Dr. Md. Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. The programme was chaired by Prof. Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, VC, EWU. Prof. Dr. Fakrul Alam, Pro-VC, EWU, and Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Chairperson of the Department of CSE, EWU also spoke on the occasion.

Finally, the 21st anniversary of CSE Department celebration ended with a cultural programme. Teachers, staff, and students of CSE Department participated in the CSE Fest 2018.

 

DIU arranges workshop on outcome-based curriculum

Textile Engineering Department of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised a workshop on "Development of Outcome-based Curriculum" on May 14, 2018 at 71 Milonayoton of DIU. Md. Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was present at the workshop as chief guest while Engr. MS Zaman, Managing Director of Micro Fiber Group was present as special guest.

Presided over by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT of DIU, Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, VC of DIU, Prof. Dr. SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-VC of DIU; Dr. Md. Mahbubul Haque, Professor & Head, Department of Textile; Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque, Director of IQAC; Abu Taher Khan, Director of CDC and other industry leaders from garments sector were also present at the programme.

BGMEA President urged the students to build career in garments sectors as there prevails immense opportunity as it's a thrust sector and Bangladesh is leading in this sector. To uphold this situation in coming days, he underscored the need of necessary development and modification of the present course curriculum.

 

NSU celebrates academic collaborations with foreign universities

A seminar on "North-South Knowledge Collaboration" was held at the Syndicate Hall of North South University (NSU) on May 7, 2018 to mark the celebration of a decade-long partnership with the Norwegian Development Assistance for Higher Education in Bangladesh and its partner institutions. NSU Public Policy and Governance (PPG) programme under the Department of Political Science & Sociology (PSS) organised the programme. Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, former Adviser to the Caretaker Government graced the occasion as chief guest.

Md. Ziaul Islam, Secretary, Planning Division, Ministry of Planning; Truls Julian, Charge d'Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy; and Mohammed Shajahan, Chairman of the BOT of NSU were present as the guests of honour. During the course of the program, a book titled "Governance and Development Management: South Asian Perspective" was launched.

The journey to this academic collaboration by North South University began in early 2008 with the University of Bergen, Norway; University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka; Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and Royal University of Bhutan as its active partners producing 121 graduates till date with more in the pipeline. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Atiqul Islam, VC, NSU.

 

WUB signs MoU with Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between World University of Bangladesh (WUB) and Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort on May 14, 2018 in the conference room of the university. After the signing ceremony, Department of Business Administration, WUB organised a seminar on "Career Planning of International Tourism and Hospitality Management".

The ceremony was graced by VC of the university, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury as chief guest. Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-VC of the university chaired the session. Chief Advisor of the university, Prof. Dr. Musfiq Mannan Choudhury, and Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer, WUB were present as special guests. Abdul Halim Sarkar, Manager (Program & Training, RHTi), Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort, was present as keynote speaker. Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students of the Business Administration department along with Tourism and Hospitality Management students were present in this event.

 

IUBAT celebrates International Nurses Day 2018

The College of Nursing at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) celebrated "International Nurses Day 2018" on May 12, 2018. The celebration reflected on the adopted international theme "Nurses a Voice to Lead – Health is a Human Right". A rally was held followed by a formal programme at the IUBAT Conference Room.

Rahima Jamal Akhtar, National Nursing Advisor, College of Nursing, Mohakhali, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The formal programme was presided over by Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC, IUBAT. Dr. Karen Lund, Canadian Senior Advisor of the College of Nursing offered a valuable speech over Skype before the audience. Speakers on the occasion focused on the necessity of educated nurses to ensure better healthcare management in the best interest of public health in the country. Deans, chairs, directors, coordinators, faculty members, students, and invited healthcare professionals attended the programme.

 

UIU hosts second season of Brand Master

The grand finale of "Brand Master - Season 2.0" was organised by United International University (UIU) Marketing Forum, a wing of UIU Career Counseling Center, on May 12, 2018 at the university campus.

Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC, UIU, presided over the event, while Syed Gousul Alam Shaon, Managing Partner and Country Head, Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd.; Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, Producer and Director, Half Stop Down; Md. Zaved Parvez, Vice President (Resource & Employers Branding - Human Resources), Robi Axiata Ltd.; and Surayya Siddiqua, Head of Marketing & Communication, International Consumer Product (ICP) were present at the programme as guests of honour.

Over 80 teams from 19 universities participated in this competition. The competition involved two workshops conducted by veteran practitioners of the country.

Team Arcenine from Islamic University of Technology was the champion of Brand Master Season 2.0. Team Empressario from UIU was the first runner-up and team MR from Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka finished as second runner-up.

 

IUB organises seminar on entrepreneurship and innovation

The School of Business of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar on "Entrepreneurship, innovation and future readiness of Bangladesh" on May 9, 2018 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Kazi M Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) was the keynote speaker of the seminar.

The programme started with welcome address given by Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB. Among others, Towhid Samad, Chairman, BOT, Chittagong Independent University, and Trustee Syed Mahmudul Huq also put their valuable remarks.

In his presentation, Islam unfolded every aspect of entrepreneurship and showed ways how the young generation needs to think differently to become successful entrepreneurs. Later, there was a panel discussion by Dr. Faisal Ahmed, Chief Economist, Bangladesh Bank; Dr. Zia U. Ahmed, Chairman of Venture Investment Partners Bangladesh Limited; Tariqul Islam Chowdhury, CEO, Google Business Group; and Shariful Islam, Founder and Director, Bangladesh Brand Forum.

Following the presentation, the floor was open for a Q&A session where both students and faculty members participated enthusiastically.

 

SEU becomes champion of Wings Uni Futsal 2018

Southeast University (SEU) won the championship by defeating International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) 6-0 in the final match of Wings Uni Futsal 2018 on May 7, 2018 at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium. BBA student Tuhin scored a hattrick, with two goals from Mansur Hillaj, and one from Ismail. SEU had previously defeated North South University 2-0 and qualified for the final.
