SEU organises lecture series on "Ethics in Teaching and Research"

Southeast University (SEU) organised the second lecture of the lecture series on "Ethics in Teaching and Research" on July 26, 2018 at the Seminar Hall of the Main Building in Banani, Dhaka.

Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, Professor of BRAC Business School and Former Adviser, Caretaker Government was present at the programme as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU chaired the seminar while Dr. Anisuzzaman, Supernumerary Professor, Department of Philosophy, University of Dhaka delivered the keynote speech. Prof. Dr. M A Hakim, Director of IQAC of SEU also spoke on the subject. Among others, the Pro-VC, Registrar, Deans, Chairs, Directors, faculty members and officials were also present at the programme.

Department of Economics at NSU organises seminar on Bangladesh's graduation from LDC status

On July 25, 2018, The Department of Economics at North South University organised a seminar titled "Bangladesh's Graduation from the Least Developed Countries Group: Opportunities and Challenges". As evident from the title, the seminar was purposed with the dissemination and discussion of valuable information on Bangladesh's transition out of Least Developed Country status by experts in economic policy and developmental fields.

Bangladesh was the largest least-developed country in terms of population and size of economy and met the UN criteria for graduation for the first time in March 2018. The discussion was therefore aimed at the achievement in detail – highlighting the process of graduation, the criteria upon which it was fruitful as well as the less conventionally discussed challenges and drawbacks of it. The seminar also encouraged student participation in the form of a Q&A session.

The seminar was graced by the chief guest Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister. The seminar also had the presence of several speakers: Prof. Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue; Sudipto Mukerjee, Country Director, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and Dr. Zahid Hussain, Lead Economist, World Bank.

M. A. Hashem, Chairman, BOT; Benajir Ahmed, Member, BOT; Md. Shajahan, Member, BOT; Dr. G.U. Ahsan, Pro-VC (Designate) and Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences; Prof. Atique Islam, VC; and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahboob Rahman, Dean, School of Business & Economics were present.

 

ULAB holds public talk on "Kazi Nazrul Islam, 'World Literature', and Internationalism"

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held a public talk on July 26, 2018 at ULAB Auditorium, Dhanmondi, entitled "Kazi Nazrul Islam, 'World Literature', and Internationalism" by Dr. Azfar Hussain, the Summer Distinguished Professor of English and Humanities at ULAB, who is also an Associate Professor of Liberal Studies/Interdisciplinary Studies at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, USA.

Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, Head of the Department of English and Humanities gave the welcome speech. The session ended with vote of thanks by Prof. HM Jahirul Haque, VC, ULAB.

Among others, Prof. S. M. A. Faiz, former VC, Dhaka University; Nurul Kabir, Editor, New Age; Prof. Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees; faculty members and students were present in the ceremony. 

The programme was organised by the Department of English and Humanities (DEH), ULAB.

DIU Chairman achieves ABRM Award of Honorary Fellowship by University of Oxford, UK

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT of Daffodil International University (DIU) achieved the ABRM Award of Honorary Fellowship 2018 of University of Oxford, UK for his outstanding contribution to knowledge leadership in the field of entrepreneurship and education.

These awards are made for outstanding personal commitment and contribution to knowledge leadership both nationally and internationally in the respective fields. The two other distinguished recipients of Honorary Fellowship Awardee of 2018 are Dr. Jo-Ann Rolle, Dean of Business School, Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York, USA, and Prof. David Graves, Managing Director, Dg Anti-Fraud Consultants, UK.

 

Notre Dame Photography Club announces "Aperture F/1"

For enthusiastic photographers, filmmakers and designers, Notre Dame Photography Club (NDPC) is launching its first official event titled "Aperture F/1: The Beginning". The two-day event will begin from September 14, 2018.

NDPC welcomes students to dive into the world of visual arts, discover a new altitude of storytelling, and expressions through the lens with the event. The wide range of the event will include photo exhibitions, travel vlogs, visual storybooks, wall magazines, workshops and many more. The club is also publishing its first photography-based magazine titled "Aperture F/1".

IUB School of Life Sciences holds seminar on gene manipulation technology

The School of Life Sciences (SLS) and the International Centre for Biotechnology and Health (ICBH) at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) hosted Dr. Mamun Rashid Chowdhury, Professor (Retd.), Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka through a seminar. Prof. Chowdhury's talk, entitled "Gene Manipulation Technology: A Discipline of Biotechnology" provided an overview of the field of biotechnology.

He discussed the implications and applications of gene manipulation technologies, including genome sequencing, diagnostics, and vaccine and drug production. The talk revisited the core of the field while also looking forward to future applications such as pharmacogenetics and personalised medicine.

Prof. Rita Yusuf, Dean of SLS, IUB introduced the speaker while the vote of thanks was delivered by Ornob Alam, Lecturer, SLS, IUB. The talk was followed by a lively Q&A session. Faculty members and students of School of Life Sciences attended the seminar.
