DIU hosts XV BDC Pre-WSDC 2018

Daffodil International University (DIU) hosted the largest national-level English debate tournament of Bangladesh, the XV BDC Pre-WSDC 2018 from September 27-29, 2018, along with the central governing body for English Debate in the country, Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC). A total of 64 teams from all across the country attended this tournament. 

Debating on the topic "Assuming feasibility, THW remove fear from the human condition", Scholastica School, Mirpur clinched the open championship defeating Rajuk in a closely contested final.

Earlier, another team from Scholastica Mirpur secured the novice championship beating Adamjee Cantonment College in the final, making it a clean sweep for the institution. Kazi Fardeen Ishraq became the "Debater of the Tournament" while Jubayer Ibn Hamid and Shafi Nur-E-Aziz, all from Scholastica, won the Best Speaker in the open and novice finals respectively.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU was present in the grand finale and the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. A. M. M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science and Prof. Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Science and the Chief Advisor of XV BDC Pre-WSDC 2018 were also present.

UIU organises inter-college football tournament

The opening match of "UIU Inter-College Football Tournament 2018" was held at UIU playground on October 1, 2018. The tournament was organised by United International University Students Affairs, in which 10 renowned colleges of Dhaka took part.

The VC of UIU Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahaman inaugurated the tournament. The final match will be held on October 13, 2018 where the champion team will get BDT 1 lakh and the runner-up team will get BDT 50,000 along with trophies. The vision of this tournament is to promote extra-curricular development of the students through a fair competition and provide a networking opportunity following the standard guidelines of Bangladesh Football Federation.

BUBT organises skill development workshop

Career Guidance Office of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organised a workshop on "Employability Skills Development" at the university campus on September 19, 2018.

Dr. Mohammad Hasan, Executive Director of Babylon Group, was the chief guest of the programme while Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business, BUBT was the session chair. Also present was Dr. Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, Registrar, BUBT. The workshop was coordinated by Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Director, Career Guidance, BUBT. Students from different departments of BUBT participated in the workshop.

IUB celebrates World Pharmacists Day 2018

The Department of Pharmacy of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated World Pharmacists Day on September 25, 2018 at the university's own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The day was observed by a rally organised by the IUB Pharmacy Department students, followed by a seminar.

Prof. Milan Pagon, VC (In charge), IUB, was the chief guest of the event. Prof. ABM Faroque, former Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka, was the key speaker of the programme. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM); Prof. Dr. JMA Hannan, Head, Department of Pharmacy, IUB; and Prof. MSK Choudhuri, former Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University also spoke on the occasion.

To mark the day, booths of various pharmaceutical companies were installed where free blood sugar and blood pressure checkups were conducted. Leading pharmaceutical companies including SK-F, Square, Beacon, NIPRO-JMI, Popular, and Hamdard participated with IUB to achieve the objectives of this significant day.

This year's theme was "Pharmacist: Your medicines experts". As designated in 2009 by the International Pharmaceutical Federation - FIP Council in Istanbul, Turkey, declared that September 25 to be observed every year as World Pharmacists Day. FIP encourages pharmacists to use this day to organise activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacists in improving health in every corner of the world.

ULAB beats UAE in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals 2018

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), representing Bangladesh, won by 26 runs beating Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, representing UAE in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals 2018 on September 27, 2018 at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo, Sri Lanka. ULAB made 129 for 8 wickets from their allotted 20 overs; United Arab Emirates (UAE) were all out for 103 runs in under 17 overs. Mahbubur Rahman of ULAB was named the "Man of the Match" who notched five wickets for 18 runs.

A total of six cricketing nations – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) battled for the world championship.

JU organises seminar in collaboration with Bdjobs.com

Management Club, Jagannath University (JU) organised a seminar titled "Journey to Career Season 2" at its campus on September 24-25, 2018 in collaboration with Bdjobs.com.

The chief guest of this seminar was Prof. Dr. Mijanur Rahman, VC of JU. Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Mostafa, Chairman, Department of Management Studies, JU was the special guest of this programme. 

The chairperson of this event was Md. Mizanur Rahman, Advisor, Management Club and Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, JU. It was coordinated by the Co-advisor of Management Club, Md. Shawfiqul Islam.

The undergraduates learned about the expectations of the employers and how to prepare themselves likewise. Keeping this in mind, Management Club designed a panel discussion on "Employers' Expectations from the Aspiring Candidates" where four renowned HR heads and a faculty member were panellists. The moderator of the panel discussion was Prokash Roy Chowdhury, Chief Commercial Officer, Bdjobs.com. The panellists discussed about the topic from which the audience gained valuable insights.
