Intra University Futsal Competition begins at SEU

Southeast University (SEU) hosted a three-day long Intra University Futsal Competition from November 22, 2018 at SEU Permanent Campus, Tejgaon, Dhaka. Kaiser Hamid, former Bangladesh National Football Team player was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, VC of SEU; M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Member of BOT, SEU Trust; Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Pro-VC, SEU; Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakruddin Ahmed (Retd.), Registrar; and faculty members and students also attended the programme. A total of 16 teams from different departments of the university participated in the competition.

 

CUB holds Academic Council Meeting

An academic council meeting was held at Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) on November 17, 2018. Dr. Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Chairman of BOT, CUB; Prof. M. A. Arafat, Chief Advisor; Dr. Atiur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and Virtual Dean, Honorary Advisor and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Shahnul Hasan Khan, Executive Chairman; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, VC; Prof. William H. Derrenger, Dean, School of Business; and Brig. Gen. Md. Asaduzzaman Subhani (Retd.), Registrar, were present at the meeting.

 

AUAP re-elects UAP Pro-VC as Country Committee Chair

Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-VC, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) has been re-elected as the Country Committee Chair of Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) for the calendar year of 2018-2020. Prof. Kabir has been serving as Country Committee Chair of AUAP since November 8, 2016.

The appointment was made following at the 1st AUAP & IFCU Joint International Conference (JIC) and 16th AUAP General Conference was held from November 18-21, 2018 in Thailand. 

With the theme of "Envisioning the Universities of Tomorrow in the Age of Emerging Technologies, Disruption and Change", this year, about 150 delegates from 47 countries attended the conference. During the conference, Prof. Kabir also signed an MoU with four different universities including SIAS International University, China in collaborating student, faculty, and research exchange.

 

IUB hosts Academia High Achievers Award Ceremony

English medium school Academia awarded its most talented students through a ceremony held on November 22, 2018, at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB distributed prizes among the students being the chief guest of the ceremony.

Along with him, Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB; Saidur Rahman, Country Director, Edexcel; Abdullah Al Mamun Liton, Development Manager, Edexcel; Dr. M. Mahabubul Haq, Principal, Academia; Kutub Uddin, Managing Director, Academia, were also present and spoke on the occasion.

Every year, high academic achievers of Academia are awarded. In 2018, 256 students from O & A Level of Edexcel curriculum have been awarded by the school.

The welcome speech was given by Raunaque Alamgir, Vice Principal, Academia and a vote of thanks was given by Sarwat Zeb, Chairperson, Academia. At the end of the programme, awardees visited the IUB campus.

AIUB VC attends IAU 2018 International Conference

Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, VC of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) and Member of Administrative Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU), with Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, VP, Academics and Dean, FBA, AIUB, participated at the "IAU 2018 International Conference" held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference took place on November 12-15, 2018 at University of Malaya and in Pullman Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Bangsar with the theme "Higher Education Partnerships for Societal Impact".

Dr. Lamagna also attended a board meeting of IAU which took place prior to the conference and chaired a session on case studies, titled "Private Sector Engagement". Dr. Charles was a speaker on the session titled "Responsible Research".

About 300 participants from across the globe took part in the event. The conference emphasised on a variety of issues and themes pertaining to higher education partnerships all around the world.

 

EWU arranges CSE Career Fest 2018

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of East West University (EWU) organised a two-day long CSE Career Fest 2018 on November 20-22, 2018 at EWU campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka. It was an event of campus recruitment and industrial attachment for students and graduates of the CSE Department. Companies from the IT and software industry set up stalls for recruitment during the event.

The event also hosted roundtable discussions, career talks, and industrial talk sessions. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education was the chief guest of the career talk session, while Habibullah N Karim, Founder and CEO, Technohaven Company Ltd.; Raisul Kabir, Founder and CEO, Brainstation-23; S M Ashraful Islam, Executive Vice Chairman, eGeneration Ltd.; Md. Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Additional Director,  University Grants Commission of Bangladesh; and Prof. Dr. Fakrul Alam, Pro-VC, EWU were the special guests on the occasion. Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Chairperson, Department of CSE, EWU chaired the programme.

 

UIU hosts first-ever National HR Convention

First-ever national convention in the field of human resources under the title "UIU National HR Convention" was held on November 24, 2018 at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre (BICC), Dhaka. The theme of the convention was "Human Resources for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)"

State Minister of Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque was present as the chief guest in the inaugural session. Faridur Rahman Khan, Vice Chairman, BOT of UIU and Managing Director of United Hospital Limited, and Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, VC, UIU were present as special guests.

Leyla Nascimento, President, World Federation of People Management Association (WFPMA) was also present as a special guest while Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil Family was present as guest of honour. Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs, Prime Minister's Office and other reputed personalities delivered their presentations in different sessions. This programme was jointly organised by six reputed organisations where 500 participants from the corporate world attended.

 

NSU ECE signs MoU with BRAC IT Services

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of North South University (NSU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently with BRAC IT Services (BiTS) on academia-industry collaboration. Under this MoU, BiTS will conduct career workshops; on-campus recruitments, tech seminars at NSU geared towards the students of ECE department; and also look at ways to collaborate on research projects, utilising academia expertise from ECE.

Dr. Arshad M Chowdhury, Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (SEPS) and AK Sabbir Mahbub, Acting CEO, BRAC IT Services Limited, signed the MoU on behalf of NSU ECE and BiTS respectively. Mohammad Shahadat Kabir, VP & Head of Project Management, BiTS; Arif-Uz-Zaman, VP & Head of Microfinance Solutions, BiTS; Ismat Jaha, Head of HR, BiTS; and Md. Tasaufur Rahman; Associate Manager, BiTS; Dr. M. Khasro Miah, Director, Career Placement Services, NSU; and Shaikh Shawon Arefin Shimon; Lecturer, ECE, NSU were also present in the ceremony.
