EWU arranges Inter-University Math Olympiad 2019
East West University (EWU) organised the Inter-University Math Olympiad 2019 with the participation of around 250 students of 22 universities and seven schools in the country. The event, held on March 23, 2019 at the EWU campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka. The competition was organised by the university's Science Club. Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairperson (In-charge) of the Board of Trustee, EWU and Adviser to the former caretaker government of Bangladesh inaugurated the competition.
After the day-long competition, a prize-giving ceremony was also held at the university. Prizes were distributed among the winning students in the competition. Prof. Dr. Fakrul Alam, VC of EWU, Dr. Anindita Pal and Amit Kumar Das, Moderators of EWU Science Club, and other members of the club were present on the occasion.
Kafil Ibna Kamal of University of Dhaka was the winner of the University Section of the competition. The winner of the School Section was Nafim Al Karim of St. Gregory's High School & College.
PAU holds seminar observing Independence and National Day
Primeasia University (PAU) organised a seminar on "The Liberation War and the Youth" on the Independence and National Day on March 24, 2019 at the IQAC Conference Hall of its Campus, Banani, Dhaka.
AKM Mozammel Huq MP, Minister of Liberation War Affairs attended the seminar as the chief guest. Raihan Azad, Member of BOT, PAU was present as the guest of honour while Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, VC of PAU presided over the programme. Masud A. Khan, Founder and Chairman of Better Bangladesh Foundation (BBF) was the moderator in the program.
Among others, M. Wahidur Rahman, freedom fighter and the former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Egypt; Shafiqur Rahman, Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Prof. Dr. AJM Omar Faroque, Dean, School of Biological Science; Prof. Sk. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Dean, School of Engineering; Heads of different departments; Controller of Examinations; Proctor; Officers and students of various departments took part in the programme.
IUBAT organises HR Day 2019
The Alumni and Placement Office of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) recently organised HR Day 2019 at its permanent campus. The heads of HR from more than fifty reputed local and multinational organisations participated in the programme and deeply appreciated such an initiative by the university.
Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC, IUBAT presided over the programme and Prof. Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum, Pro-VC was the special guest.
Being a pioneering non-government university of Bangladesh, IUBAT deeply recognises the role of HR professionals in capacity building, promoting organisational excellence and thereby improving performance of its economy. This role is hardly recognised elsewhere officially but the university has taken a firm initiative to recognise the roles of the HR professionals every year starting through celebration of the HR Day. The participants highly commended holding of the day and suggested its celebration nationally and internationally.
The mission of the IUBAT is human resources development and is interested to learn from the HR professionals the needs and expectations of the employers from the fresh graduates seeking entry level jobs. Therefore the gathering duly recognised the roles of HR professionals while exploring the needs and expectation of the 21st century market for human resources.
PHIS students receive awards at World Book Day competition
To commemorate World Book Day and to encourage the joys of reading among children and adults in Bangladesh, the British Council and Daffodil Education Network (DEF) annually organise a "Book Reading Competition". This was the sixth year they held the competition and have yielded many into active readers.
This year a total of 1017 contestants from all over Bangladesh took part in this competition in different age groups. The top 5 participants received awards for their outstanding effort. Among the five winners was Mahin Rahman Safwan, a Pledge Harbor International School student from grade 7. Mahin topped his group and was awarded a laptop by the organisers Apart from him, four other students—Taiba Tanjila Mili (Group A), Najeeba Khandakar and Muhammad Bin Masud (Group B), and Aubidur Rahman (Group C)—from the IB boarding school located in Mawna, received merit awards.
UIU holds Bonik Bazar 2019
Students under the course "Entrepreneurship & Business Plan Development" of Business School of United International University (UIU) organised a two-day fair named "UIU Bonik Bazar 2019" at first floor of the campus on March 19, 2019 with the direction of the respective faculty Md. Jakowan.
The main objective of this fair is to enrich students with practical experience on how to prepare a business plan and start a startup business accordingly. In two days fair students have launched their own startups with different types of innovative and useful products and services.
Around 40 students with eight stalls participated in the fair with 50 innovative products including handicrafts, homemade food items, fashion accessories and many more. The VC of UIU Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahaman inaugurated the fair. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Hasnan Ahmed; Dean of SoBE; Director of SoBE; Director of CCC; and other faculty members were present in the ceremony.
IUB hosts discussion on capital market development
KAM Majedur Rahman, Managing Director, Dhaka Stock Exchange was the keynote speaker at a seminar at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on March 19, 2019. The programme titled "Capital Market Development in Bangladesh: Current Status & Ways Forward", was organised by the Finance Department of IUB's School of Business.
Trustee Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, former Chairman, BOT, IUB; Prof. M. Omar Rahman, VC, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB; and Prof. Mohd. Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business were also present on the occasion.
While presenting in the seminar, Rahman discussed various types of investments, dynamics of taking decisions for investments, related risks, and other issues to stock market. He informed the audience that Dhaka Stock Exchange has already prepared necessary rules and regulations for setup a clearing and settlement company.
Members of the faculty, and administration attended the seminar, which was followed by a stimulating question and answer session.
