DIU Chairman presents keynote paper at BFCCI Annual Summit in Finland

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Founder and Chairman, Daffodil International University (DIU) and Daffodil Family presented his keynote speech at Bangladesh-Finland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BFCCI) Annual Summit held on August 22, 2019 at Opinmäki, Espoo in Finland. 

More than two hundred representatives from business firms, academic institutions as well as Finnish ministries and over 20 Finnish companies/universities such as Nokia Networks, Fortum, Wärstilä, Reima, Tieto, Kone, Aalto University etc. participated in the event, and discussed the bilateral business potential and academic collaboration between Bangladesh and Finland. By this networking, Daffodil will be able to explore multiple benefits in the near future.

Veronika Honkasalo, Member of Parliament of Finland was present on the occasion as the chief guest, whereas Sayma Razzaki, First Secretary, Bangladesh Embassy, Stockholm, Sweden was the special guest. Kamrul Ahsan, President, BFCCI provided the welcome speech. Among others, Tommi Salaspuro, Consul General, Bangladeshi Consulate General; Birgit Nevala, Director Finnpartnership's Programme, Finnpartnership; Göran Richardsson, Regional Director, Sales, South Asia, Wärtsilä Energy Business; Petri Alava, CEO, Infinited Fiber Oy; Janne Heinonen, Watermaster, Finland were present as the speakers of the event.

The topic of Dr. Khan's presentation was "Academic collaboration between Bangladesh and Finland: How both countries can be mutually benefited", where relationship between Bangladesh and Finland as well as business prospects, contribution of present government of Bangladesh, bilateral ties, policy and development in higher education and science, scope for Bangladeshi students in Finnish universities, possible academic cooperation, emergence of private universities, research, globalisation, technology, DIU Model in Education and entrepreneurship development, scopes for DIU and Finnish universities, role of NRBs in Finland were covered.

AIUB receives books donated by Philippine Ambassador 

Vicente Vivencio Bandillo, Philippine Ambassador to the People's Republic of Bangladesh donated books to the Library of the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) on August 27, 2019. The donation coincides with the celebration of the Philippine National Language Month. To make the event more meaningful and interesting to the audience, a video presentation about AIUB was shown and another video about the Philippines titled "It's More Fun in the Philippines".

On hand to receive the initial book donation was VC of AIUB Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, witnessed by other Philippine Embassy Officials and the Pro-VC, Vice President Academics, Deans, Academic and Non-academic Directors, Department Heads, Course Conveners and campus officers of the university. The handover of the books was preceded by messages delivered by the Ambassador and a response from the VC who also presented an AIUB crest to the Ambassador.

The arrival of the Ambassador together with officers from the Philippine Embassy were heartily welcomed by the VC and other officers of the university. The party was ushered to the different buildings, laboratories and classrooms of the university. They were toured around the campus riding on a solar powered car, designed and developed by the engineering students of AIUB.

GUB students receive China Government Scholarship

Five students from various departments of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) were awarded 2019 Government and President Scholarship of China for pursuing PhD & Master's programmes. The scholarship covers all educational, food and accommodation expenses. The recipients of the scholarship are A S M Sarwer Hossain, Dept. of Law; Manjurul Alam, Dept. of Law; Rafique Ulla Fayazi, Dept. of Textile; Ajoy Kumar Halder, Dept. of Textile and Sheikh Jalam Ahmed, Dept. of Textile.

To celebrate this historic moment and to congratulate them, an event was organised on August 28 at GUB. In the programme, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mamun, Chairman, Board of Trustees of GUB; Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, VC of GUB congratulated the scholarship holder for their great achievement.

GUB had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with three top ranking universities of China named Hubei University, China Three Gorges University, and Hubei University of Technology in 2018. The MoU enhanced the academic relationship like research, development, student, faculty and staff exchange, scholarship programme for students, faculties for pursuing graduate and post graduate degrees, among the universities.

EWU launches its new website

East West University (EWU) has launched its new website with improved functionality, design, and navigation. Apart from these technical improvements, this new website also contains detailed content and user-friendly connectivity. The address of the website remains the same which is www.ewubd.edu. The launching programme was held on August 29, 2019 at EWU Campus, Aftabanagar, Dhaka. 

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and former Adviser of Caretaker Government of Bangladesh; Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; members of the Board of Trustees; Vice Chancellor; Treasurer; Deans and Heads of various administrative departments. They hope that through the new website, EWU will be able to establish more contacts with students, faculty members and guardians at home and abroad.

BUFT holds orientation programme for Fall 2019

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) organised an orientation programme for the newly admitted students of Fall 2019 semester at its main campus in the capital. BUFT arranged the function on August 29, 2019, for students in the following programs: B.Sc. (Hons) in AMT, FDT, KMT, TE, TEM, IE, English, BBA and Masters Programmes.

Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun MP, was present at the event as the chief guest. He gave special emphasis on developing new students as enlightened and capable people for the country. Abdus Salam Murshedy MP, also a founder member of the Board of Trustees (BOT), BUFT, was present at the event as the special guest.

Muzaffar U. Siddique, ounder Chairman, Board of Trustees, BUFT, chaired the function. Others founder members of Board of Trustees Md. Faruque Hassan, SM Mannan (Kochi), and Md. Moshiul Azam were also present.

VC (acting) Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Registrar, Treasurer, Director of Administration. CFO, Head of Logistics, Project Director, Head of PR, all heads of the academic and administrative departments, faculty members, officials, staff of BUFT, along with media personnel, the newly admitted students and their guardians were present at the function.
