Freedom fighter Dr Shamsuddoha Khandokar has been elected as the Chairman of the BoT at Eastern University (EU). He was elected at the BoT's AGM on December 30.

Former Bangladesh Police AIG and former Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Dr Shamsuddoha Khondker did his doctoral studies on river research at Manchester University and successfully earned his PhD.

During his service at Bangladesh Police, Dr Shamsuddoha contributed significantly to developing a modern police force. He was the first man to initiate the participation of a female police contingent in the UN peacekeeping mission from Bangladesh. Dr Shamsuddoha significantly reduced flood calamities and considerably safeguarded our economy during his time as Chairman of BIWTA. A prominent river scientist and dedicated educationist, Dr Shamsuddoha is involved with several educational institutions. 

The outgoing EU BoT Chairman Ismayeel Zabiullah handed over the office to the new chair during the AGM. Dr Shamsuddoha will chair the board for the next year starting from January 1.
