Bangladesh university of business and technology
Established in 2003 under the Private University Act of 1992, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was created by the governing body of Dhaka Commerce College with the vision to create an institution that can provide quality education and training to the prospective students. The institution, run by a Board of Trustees and a Syndicate, set out to follow North American university standards under the regulations set by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).
Starting out with only around 60 students, BUBT slowly climbed up the ranks as one of the esteemed private universities in Bangladesh. Currently there are over 8000 students studying 17 academic programmes under 8 departments and 6 faculties that include: Faculty of Business; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Faculty of Social Sciences; and Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The university consists of both undergraduate and graduate programmes with 290 faculty members and over 100 staff members. This was possible due to the adherence to quality teaching methods, an up-to-date curriculum, research facilities, and strict codes of behaviour implemented by the administration. The administration also offers special waivers for students with needs.
The permanent campus of BUBT in Rupnagar, Mirpur 2, Dhaka, consists of three separate buildings all equipped with modern facilities to give the students a pristine campus experience. The campus not only offers great classrooms and high-functioning computer labs, but also hosts various extra-curricular activities through sports club, debating club, cultural club, and other club events throughout the year.
AHM Azmal Hossain, Joint Registrar, BUBT and President, BUBT Alumni Association spoke about the university's recent activities and achievements. One such note-worthy mention was made by UGC itself, who sent a letter of appreciation recognising BUBT's move to the permanent campus, following through with the Private University Act, 2010.
Hossain also spoke about the student-centric approach that BUBT provides and the strong sense of ethics that is instilled in the administration allowing faculty members as well as students to be respectful and diligent with their work. The university not only provides career counselling for students, but also runs a research centre where 200 teachers have been trained so far on Research Methodology.
One of their most recent events was the "BUBT Job Fair 2018" in association with PRAN - RFL Group, organised by the Career Guidance Office of the university. The event, taking place in the campus premise, hosted a seminar on "Challenges for Freshers in the Present Job Market" where students learned about the challenges they could be facing in the job market after graduation. Among the guests present during at the event were included Md. Kaysarul Haque, Director, International Partnership, PRAN-RFL Group, who was the chief guest of the event. While Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, BUBT Trust; Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Treasurer, BUBT; and Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT, were present as special guests.
Among other things, the university's Department of English, BUBT has established a Language Laboratory established under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education, Govt. of Bangladesh, jointly financed by BUBT and tThe World Bank and BUBT. The lab is equipped with various facilities which can cater to students' every academic needs.
BUBT has also been involved with Ccyber Ccrime training programmes in collaboration with the ICT dDivision. On September 16, 2017, the university held a day- long training session with 36 sub-inspectors from 7 police stations under Mirpur Division, with an Officer In-charge (OC) attendinged the training as well. The training was conducted by Tanvir Hassan Zoha, Cyber Crime Investigation a cyber-security expert specialist and cConsultant of at Crime Research and Analysis Foundation (CRAF). At the end of the programme, Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice- Chancellor, BUBT handed over certificates among the participants.
The students of BUBT have also had many achievements with the members of their debating club actively participating in national level debating competitions. While during In April, 2017, a team from the Robotics Club of BUBT were crowned became the winning team champions in of the "Autonomous Robotics Challenge Competition" in "Techkriti- 2017", the biggest technical and entrepreneurship -based festival contest of Asia, which was held in organised by IIT Kanpur, India.
After learning about this university's accomplishments, we got a chance to sit with Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice-Chancellor, BUBT to learn about his vision for BUBT.
"This university was established not by businessmen, but by a group of academicss who wanted to provide quality education and training that is relevant to the needs of the modern society. In BUBT we believe in a proactive method of teaching while keeping in mind the importance of theoretical knowledge. Through all our efforts we try to transform our students as capable human resources so that they can contribute to the socio-economic progress of the country.," said the Vice ChancellorVC.
BUBT excels in not only providing academic excellence but is constantly aiming to go further in giving their students the best of everything so that they can reach their fullest potential.
