Don't let Summer be a Bummer
Summer's here, and it looks like it's going to stay for a while in all it's hot, humid glory. Wearing make-up becomes an icky ordeal in this heat, but fear not, there is a way to make do without it. Accessories are your best friend this season, and you will not get the opportunity to utilise them like this any other time of the year.
Sunglasses: Does your liner keep smudging off? Do your friends call you Panda Eyes? No problem. What you need is something that will do the work of eye makeup, but without the fuss of it. Solution: sunglasses. Spend some time looking for the perfect pair to frame your face with and just whip them out whenever a photo op arises. This eliminates the need for lined eyes, smoky eyes or any eyes at all. Seriously, your eye sockets could be empty and those sunglasses would still look good on you.
Headbands: Channel your inner Blair Waldorf with the use of fun well-placed headbands. Don't just stick to the bland black ones – get your DIY skills on and bling up plain plastic. Use the elastic ones to wear around your forehead. Mix and match and wear two at a time. Head bands are especially great to accessorise with when you have your hair in a bun. If you're self-conscious about having a giant forehead – like I am – the head bands will distract from it and look cute at the same time. Bonus points if you can get your hands on/ make your own kitty-ear head band.
Nail Polish: This is the easiest way to add colour to your look. All those crazy nail-art designs that you're always liking on Instagram? How about trying them out? Sure, they'll be a bit of a mess at first but it will feel so good when you finally get those polka dots on after hours of fiddling with a bobby pin. Go all out with glitter polish and fluorescent colours – your nails are a very tiny part of your body, so don't be afraid to be bold and playful with them.
Jewellery: Necklaces. Earrings. Bracelets. Say yes to them all. Simple way to add some glam to your look and keep you feeling cool too. If you don't feel like your face is up for a selfie, just put on some rings, pose with your favourite chilled drink and Instagram a picture of your hand. Who knows, this might open up doors for you in the world of hand modelling, if such a thing exists.
Final tip: None of these can make it work for you unless you've got your most important accessory on – your smile. So stop locking yourself indoors and show summer what it's dealing with.
