Indian invitees at the Oscars!

The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences has invited 14 Indian actors and technicians to be a part of it. Once these people become eligible, they will be able to vote for the Oscars. The Indian personalities are Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mrinal Sen, Goutam Ghose, Sooni Taraporevala, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Arjun Bhasin, Anand Patwardhan and Amrit Pritam Dutta. The Academy has invited a total of 774 new members this year, breaking their own record from 2016 when they invited 683 members. Although this might seem like really good news for Bollywood, in reality the Academy may just be filling up a quota. The Academy faced a backlash earlier for nominating all white actors two years in a row and then near the beginning in 2016, the Academy vowed to double the number of women and minority by 2020. So this might merely be an attempt to make the Oscars more diverse.
