Tomb Raider director says reboot is inspired by latest video games
It's been a beat since we heard anything on the new Tomb Raider movie, directed by Roar Uthaug from a script by Evan Daugherty. This week brings confirmation from the Norwegian filmmaker that it will indeed be based on the franchise's latest video game run.
“I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well,” Uthaug said during an interview for his disaster movie, The Wave. “I think we'll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I'm hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”
Crystal Dynamics rebooted the games in 2013 by envisioning a younger Lara Croft for an origin story. Tomb Raider was then followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider and solidified the character as a gritty, Katniss-type heroine.
