A CHAT WITH MESSIANIC ERA

Tell us something about Messianic Era.
Messianic Era (ME) is a progressive metal band from Dhaka which was formed back in November 2011. We are a bunch of guys who share similar taste and views in music. The bands and personnel from whom we were inspired to form ME were Ronnie James Dio, Dream Theatre, Opeth, Iron Maiden, Alter Bridge, Steven Wilson, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, and it's also worth mentioning Vibe, a Bangladeshi heavy metal band. One good thing about ME is we don't just meet during our practice sessions, but also hang out a lot, which helps us form the chemistry. Music doesn't always come when you have a guitar in your hand, rather it might strike your mind with a cup of tea in your hand, and that's how we feel about it.
How did you guys meet?
Back in 2011, me and Tahmid Rahman, who happen to be childhood buddies, started planning about Messianic Era. Initially, we carried on with the help of some of our friends. With the course of time there were us and downs in ME and many have come and gone. There was a time, probably from mid 2014 to late 2015, when ME was inactive and were at the edge of getting disbanded. Then in late 2015 when we started planning again our bassist left and that's when Rafeed Redwan Roktim fills in who was a hangout friend of mine. When our drummer left, we started auditioning for our drummer and took us months to finally get settled with Rafayyat Jim taking the throne. The current line up is:
Navid Ehsan – Vocalist and Guitarist
Tahmid Rahman - Guitarist
Rafeed Redwan Roktim - Bassist
Rafayyat Jim – Drummer
When do you plan to release your album?
It might be farfetched but we are determined to release our album by late 2017. We are currently working simultaneously on our third and fourth tracks which leaves us with four more tracks to be composed. Our current completed tracks are "Rupantor" and "Mukhosh" while the other two haven't been named yet.
What is your opinion of the band industry at the moment?
A lot of improvements have been going on in recent years. Almost every radio channels are promoting new bands every week, and sponsors are extending hands. And it is also worth mentioning the emergence of new musical online platforms that are promoting music and nevertheless, thanks to Daily Star, who are also pulling off a good job promoting bands every week.
Where would you like to see yourselves after 10 years?
It is never a crime to dream big and our vision is to be one of the top ten progressive metal bands of Bangladesh. Success is a perception and to us getting a hundred thousand likes on Facebook fan page won't mean anything if each and every member of ME are not hundred percent satisfied with every musical piece. And that's how we plan to put ourselves in the minds of our listeners.
