A CHAT WITH SHARMIN

Sharmin did not have a silver-spoon upbringing; however, she was gifted with a tone that pulls at the very chords of the heart string. The strength of her voice is as raw as the land that bore her. Despite being nurtured in the bosom of folk music, Sharmin was not given the opportunity to unveil her natural talent. It was not until the reality TV show titled 'Aarong Dairy-Channel i Banglar Gaan 2016', that the magic in her voice came under the lime light. In the nation-wide challenge, among thousands of participants, she was the youngest one who emerged as the champion. It seemed that the years of hardship she had faced were steadily starting to shift. Showbiz is delighted to present the conversation we had with the exponent to our readers.
So Sharmin, can you shed some light on how your involvement with the competition came about?
It was solely because of my father Humayun Sharkar. He had learnt about the campaign on TV and had my name registered as a contestant and instructed me on approaching the competition as I've spent my childhood amidst folk music with him and my grandfather. I have even tried my luck at similar contests earlier, which did not prove to be of much success. But when I partook in the latest one, I obtained the title of the champion.
Who do you idolize as a singer?
It is none other than Momtaz mam. I am truly enthralled by the "truth" in her voice.
What plans have you made so far to continue your journey with folk music?
I consider myself blessed to be born in a family which preached and practised folk music with utmost devoutness. Hence, I am eager to keep the family legacy alive. The relation between Baul music and our motherland is rather spiritual, and I want my voice to be a testament of that fact. I would like for the world to comprehend and appreciate the nature of my art.
