Clearing the air
Tomorrow we celebrate a very important day to us all over the world; International Women's Day. It's a day where we celebrate all the achievements that women around the world have accomplished. Looking back, it's true how much struggles women had to overcome to achieve the freedom and independence that they enjoy today, thanks to those brave pioneers from all sectors of society that set the way forwards for all women. Just like all the fields out there, the world of showbiz has also been greatly benefitted by the involvement of women. Their performances, be it music or acting, always managed to captivate audiences for ages.
Women have had very similar impact in our own media as well. They have all brought in memorable performances and incredible contributions. Despite this however, much to my sadness, most of the women in our media aren't seen in a very positive light. Even the profession itself is seen in a negative manner. This misconception seems to be very deep rooted as even in this day and age, people see women in media or the idea of women working in the media as a negative thing. Thankfully things are changing, but as it is with most kinds of change, it's slow. People must see that contributions of women in the media are numerous, and we have plenty of examples of that. To the women working in their respective sectors of the media, I say that do your work well and with passion. Your work will earn you the respect that you deserve. At the end of the day, what people say about you doesn't really matter as long as you have your work to back you up.
