Neigh-cessary Evils
When BoJack Horseman first premiered, you probably expected something along the lines of your typical adult humour series (Family Guy and The Simpsons stans are flailing around offended somewhere). You definitely weren’t prepared to see a horse more human than you could ever be. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we’d sympathise with a cartoon horse, let alone relate to it. Seeing the world through the eyes of a depressed alcoholic horse, who suffers from severe insecurity and abandonment issues (sounds familiar?), truly threw us in a loop of despair. Pair that with how the show was able to masterfully portray serious personal and political issues, along with inappropriate, but somehow appropriate, humour, and you end up with hours of binge-watching the antics of a horse comedian. Somehow, through it all, it didn’t feel at all absurd how the show is set in a world where humans and anthropomorphic creatures live side by side. Now, we must prepare to bid farewell to this masterpiece. The sixth and final season (we’re just as furious as you are) will be aired on October 25, 2019 and January 31, 2020. Save the dates. Burn them into your memory. Write them on sticky notes and paste them on every possible surface. Let’s look forwards to one more season of self-reflection.
