Tk 26,066 crore proposed for energy sector
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has received Tk 26,066 crore allocation in the proposed budget for FY 2022-23, which is Tk 1,418 crore less than the allocation in the current fiscal year.
The lion share of the proposal will be spent in the power sector, as usual: Tk 24,139 crore. The energy and mineral division got Tk 1,798 crore in the proposal.
"Thanks to the relentless efforts of the government to increase power generation over the last 13 years, the total power generation capacity of the country stood at 25,566 MW," said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in his budget speech today (June 9, 2022).
He said, "I'm happy to announce that 100 percent of the population now has access to electricity, and per capita power generation increased to 560 kilowatt-hour from 220 kilowatt-hour in 2009.
