Cyclone Sitrang formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal late night yesterday (October 23, 2022). This is the first big storm that has developed in the Bay of Bengal in the month of October since 2018. It may cross the Bangladeshi coast by early tomorrow (October 25, 2022).
Most of the areas of Patuakhali district have been facing power outage since last night (October 23, 2022) due to heavy rain and stormy wind ahead of cyclone Sitrang.
Locals are in panic since the embankment in Khulna’s Koyra upazila was damaged due to high tide and rain since midnight ahead of cyclone Sitrang.
All the vessels anchored at the jetties and the outer anchorage of Chattogram port are being sent to the deeper sea by this afternoon (October 24, 2022) as safety measure ahead of approaching cyclone Sitrang.
Under the influence of cyclone 'Sitrang', Khulna and its adjoining districts have been experiencing heavy rainfall.
Cyclone Sitrang, currently located around 495 kilometre South-Southwest of Payra port and advancing towards the coast at a speed of 15 km, will cross between Barishal and Chattogram near Khepupara by tomorrow (October 25, 2022) morning, the met office said.
Launch and speedboat movement on 12 routes from Barishal river port has been suspended due to heavy rains and gusty wind caused by cyclone "Sitrang" formed over the east-central Bay.
