Mushfiq negotiates the last over of the day from Nathan Lyon safely and play comes to an end on the first day of the second Test. Bangladesh are 253 for six at close and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is on 62 while Nasir Hossain has contributed with 19 runs. Their partnership reach 31 off 52 balls.

Mushfiq has played a fantastic knock to keep Bangladesh in the game. At one stage the Tigers were struggling at 117/5. The crucial partnership of 105 runs between Mushfiq and Sabbir saw Bangladesh put on 222 runs before Sabbir fell.

Mushfiq completed his half-century to bring up Bangladesh's 200 run and he continued to play his shots even after Sabbir's departure.

88.6, Ban 253/6 - Nasir drives uppishly but the ball goes through the fielders, square of extra cover for four. That takes Bangladesh past the 250-run mark.

The duo will have to contend with another two overs before play comes to an end on the first day.

Bangladesh dominated proceedings after tea courtsey of a century partnership between skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and batsman Sabbir Rahman. However, Sabbir's dismissal sees Australia get back into the flow of things. Lyon will count himself lucky to have produced a rare bad ball only to see Sabbir lose balance and fall over - Wade took off the bails pretty quickly.

Lyon has already taken five of the six Bangladesh wickets. That was an odd way for Sabbir to get himself out. Could have left it alone too!

Sabbir has played his natural game in this innings. He has looked to use his feet and picked up runs at a brisk pace. He has pushed some of the pressure back on to the Australians after this uncanny knock.

The Australians, however, will still feel they are on top after losing the toss and bowling on a decent batting pitch.

End of over 55: Bangladesh 141 for five (Mushfiqur 21, Sabbir 18) - Two batsmen playing vastly different kinds of innings. Sabbir Rahman playing the odd paddle sweep and the down-the-wicket slog while Mushfiqur Rahim is looking as solid as ever. 

51.1 - Well, we know how Sabbir is going to play this. He comes down the wicket and lifts Nathan Lyon, not quite off the middle of the bat, for six just over the long on fence, where a fielder is stationed for that very shot. 

End of over 50: Bangladesh 128/5 (Mushfiqur 19, Sabbir 7) - Skipper Mushfiqur continues looking like the most solid batsman on display on what is a decent batting pitch. Sabbir Rahman, who had a memorable debut here in October 2016 when he played his best Test innings to date, will have to buckle down and keep his captain company.

49.3 - Sabbir Rahman sees the ball and hits the ball. This one was fired through by Nathan Lyon, but Sabbir saw it early and played through the line outside off stump and the ball raced away to the cover fence. It remains to be seen how long that approach will hold against an Australian attack that is executing their plans with precision.

46.4 - Ashton Agar bowls from around the wicket and angles the ball away from Shakib Al Hasan, who once again makes the last-second decision to hang his bat out, and the edge is taken gleefully by the keeper.

End of over 45: Bangladesh 110/4 (Shakib 18, Mushfiqur 14) - Promisingly for Bangladesh, Shakib seems to have settled down and playing the ball on its merits while Mushfiqur as usual looks solid. 

End of over 40: Bangladesh 100/4 (Shakib 15, Mushfiqur 8) - Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim keep things steady, or as steady as they can seem with Shakib's last-moment dabs and slashes. The partnership between these two is extremely vital for Bangladesh's chances of scoring substantially, as a wicket will expose Bangladesh's soft lower-middle order. 

33.6 - Mominul Haque's comeback is cut short as he plays back when he should really have been pushing forward. Nathan Lyon slides in a quicker one and it zips off the surface, beating the closing face of the bat and thudding into the pads. The umpire has no doubts, and Shakib advises Mominul not to review.

30.6 -Shakib hits another, this time airily through covers for four. A bit risky, but that is how Shakib starts his innings. Bangladeshis will hope that he can last. 

30.4 - Shakib Al Hasan is not bothered by the scoreboard. In the sixth ball after lunch, which is only the third ball he has faced, He hits Pat Cummins for a well-timed off drive just wide of mid off.  

It's 12.02 PM Bangladesh time and lunch has been called on Day 1 of the second Test. The players went to lunch straight after Soumya's dismissal.

It has been Australia's session. They have picked up three wickets and also managed to break the partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque. The duo reached 49 runs before Soumya was dismissed.

Mominul Haque is not out on 24.

29.4, Ban 70/3 - Soumya plays forward but not enough. Ball hits him on the back foot as he misses the line of Lyon's delivery. Nathan Lyon picks up another wicket -- it's another leg-before wicket, his third this morning. Soumya played for the turn but it drifted in slightly and that made Soumya miss the line of the delivery.

Ashton Agar has been brought into the attack by Smith. Soumya and Mominul have looked to counter everything with a straight bat so far. That has been the decisive trait of their 41 run partnership.

22.3, Ban 54/2 - Quick bouncer from Pat Cummins. Hits Momiul straight on the helmet. Balls loops up and falls shgort of the fielder running in. Would not have been out either way.

21.3, Ban 53/2 - Mominul romps onto the back foot and cuts O' Keefe through backward point. Fielder gets a hand to the ball and the batsmen run two.

The pitch has held up a bit. Both Bangladesh batsman have gotten out while trying to play across the line to Nathan Lyon. Mominul has so far looked to play with a straight bat.

18.6, Ban 41/2 - Soumya punches Cummins on the back foot through the covers. The batsmen run two.

18.2, Ban 39/2 - Soumya flicks uppishly. Ball holds off the surface from Pat Cummins - Sarkar's tentave shot falls safely in no man's land.

It's been a patient knock from Soumya so far. He has looked to pick his moments and not play rash shots. This is supposed to be a good wicket to bat on.

Mominul Haque is the new batsman at the crease. Kayes's poor run witt he bat in this series continues. Lyon has picked up both Bangladesh wicket and both were leg-before-wicket dismissals.
