Mushfiq negotiates the last over of the day from Nathan Lyon safely and play comes to an end on the first day of the second Test. Bangladesh are 253 for six at close and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is on 62 while Nasir Hossain has contributed with 19 runs. Their partnership reach 31 off 52 balls.

Mushfiq has played a fantastic knock to keep Bangladesh in the game. At one stage the Tigers were struggling at 117/5. The crucial partnership of 105 runs between Mushfiq and Sabbir saw Bangladesh put on 222 runs before Sabbir fell.

Mushfiq completed his half-century to bring up Bangladesh's 200 run and he continued to play his shots even after Sabbir's departure.

88.6, Ban 253/6 - Nasir drives uppishly but the ball goes through the fielders, square of extra cover for four. That takes Bangladesh past the 250-run mark.

The duo will have to contend with another two overs before play comes to an end on the first day.

87.5, Ban 246/6 - Nasir Hossain drives powerfully through the covers. Ball goes for four.

87.1, Ban 241/6 -  Absolutely brilliant shot throught the covers from Mushfiq. Desperate attemp from the fielder at deep mid-off but ball runs away to the fence for four.

End of over 85 (Rahim 55 not out, Nasir 7 not out)

Bangladesh dominated proceedings after tea courtsey of a century partnership between skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and batsman Sabbir Rahman. However, Sabbir's dismissal sees Australia get back into the flow of things. Lyon will count himself lucky to have produced a rare bad ball only to see Sabbir lose balance and fall over - Wade took off the bails pretty quickly.

83.5, Ban 232/6 - Nasir rocks on to his back foot and caresses the ball throgh the cover for four off Lyon.

Lyon has already taken five of the six Bangladesh wickets. That was an odd way for Sabbir to get himself out. Could have left it alone too!

81.1, Ban 222/6 - Cummins drift down the leg side. Sabbir misses his shot but loses his balance. Decision goes to the third umpire and he is gone. Excellent work from wicket-keeper Wade.

Sabbir Rahman st Wade b Lyon 66 (113b 6x4 1x6) SR: 58.40

80.4, Ban 221/5 - Cummins drifts way off to the leg side. Ball goes for four bye runs.

Australia have taken the second new ball and Pat Cummins is back on the attack.

End of over 80

79,1, Ban 217/5 -  That's Mushfiq's fifty! He leans into a pleasing drive and runs two. That's also the 100 run partnership between Mushfiq and Sabbir.

77.6, Ban 215/5 - Mushfiq hangs his bat out there and ball takes an inside edge off O' Keefe's bowling. Tough chance.

End of over 75 (Sabbir 61 not out, Mushfiq, 47 not out)

74.6, Ban 210/5 -  Cartwright lures Sabbir into a mistake as the dashing middle-order batsman plays the cover drive too early. Ball stays in the air momentarily but lands safely.

73.5, Ban 209/5 - Mushfiq opens up his body and caresses the ball through the covers for four. Back to back boundary takes him to 47 runs.

73.4, Ban 205/5 - Mushfiq slog sweeps O' Keefe for four over deep mid-wicket. Against the spin too! Risky but effective.

72.6, Ban 201/5 - Cartwright to Sabbir and he drives it through cover. Wonderful shot to bring up Bangladesh's 200.

End of over 70 (Sabbir 52 not out, Mushfiq 38 not out)

The magnificent partnership between Sabbir and Mushfiq carries Bangladesh to 192/5. The partnership stands at 73 runs.

Sabbir has played his natural game in this innings. He has looked to use his feet and picked up runs at a brisk pace. He has pushed some of the pressure back on to the Australians after this uncanny knock.

67.4, Ban 188/5 - Sabbir drives O' keefe square on the off side and runs two to bring up his fifty from 62 balls. He struck five four's and a six on his way to a fifty. The crowd acknowledges an important knock.

65.6, Ban 182/5 - Lovely sweep shot from Sabbir off Lyon. Ball races to the boundary for four.

65.2, Ban 177/5 - Sabbir paddle sweeps and the partnership reaches 60. This is the highest sixth-wicket partnership for Bangladesh in Test cricket.

End of over 65 (Mushfiq 33 n.o, Sabbir 39 n.o)

64.1, Ban 172/5 - Sabbir blazes Lyon over extra cover for four.

60.4, Ban 159/5 - Agar to Sabbr and the right-hander hits the bowler straight down the ground for four.

Pat Cummins does not return after the lunch break. The quick has bowled 14 overs in this sweltering heat. Agar starts proceedings for Australia.

End of over 60: Tea break, Bangladesh 155 for 5 (Mushfiqur 29, Sabbir 24) - Mushfiqur Rahim succeeds in taking Bangladesh to the tea break, limiting the damage in the session to the departures of Mominul Haque and Shakib Al Hasan. The Australians, however, will still feel they are on top after losing the toss and bowling on a decent batting pitch.

End of over 58 - Wonder of wonders! Sabbir Rahman plays out a maiden from Ashton Agar.

56.5 - Sabbir is living dangerously. He tries the Viv Richards flick-six to an incoming Pat Cummins delivery over square leg, but gets it high on the bat and it falls short of the man running in from deep backward square leg.

End of over 55: Bangladesh 141 for five (Mushfiqur 21, Sabbir 18) - Two batsmen playing vastly different kinds of innings. Sabbir Rahman playing the odd paddle sweep and the down-the-wicket slog while Mushfiqur Rahim is looking as solid as ever.

51.1 - Well, we know how Sabbir is going to play this. He comes down the wicket and lifts Nathan Lyon, not quite off the middle of the bat, for six just over the long on fence, where a fielder is stationed for that very shot.

End of over 50: Bangladesh 128/5 (Mushfiqur 19, Sabbir 7) - Skipper Mushfiqur continues looking like the most solid batsman on display on what is a decent batting pitch. Sabbir Rahman, who had a memorable debut here in October 2016 when he played his best Test innings to date, will have to buckle down and keep his captain company.

49.3 - Sabbir Rahman sees the ball and hits the ball. This one was fired through by Nathan Lyon, but Sabbir saw it early and played through the line outside off stump and the ball raced away to the cover fence. It remains to be seen how long that approach will hold against an Australian attack that is executing their plans with precision.

46.4 - Ashton Agar bowls from around the wicket and angles the ball away from Shakib Al Hasan, who once again makes the last-second decision to hang his bat out, and the edge is taken gleefully by the keeper.

Shakib Al Hasan c †Wade b Agar 24 (52b 3x4 0x6) SR: 46.15. FOW: 117/5

End of over 45: Bangladesh 110/4 (Shakib 18, Mushfiqur 14) - Promisingly for Bangladesh, Shakib seems to have settled down and playing the ball on its merits while Mushfiqur as usual looks solid.

End of over 40: Bangladesh 100/4 (Shakib 15, Mushfiqur 8) - Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim keep things steady, or as steady as they can seem with Shakib's last-moment dabs and slashes. The partnership between these two is extremely vital for Bangladesh's chances of scoring substantially, as a wicket will expose Bangladesh's soft lower-middle order.

33.6 - Mominul Haque's comeback is cut short as he plays back when he should really have been pushing forward. Nathan Lyon slides in a quicker one and it zips off the surface, beating the closing face of the bat and thudding into the pads. The umpire has no doubts, and Shakib advises Mominul not to review.

Mominul Haque lbw b Lyon 31 (67b 2x4 0x6) SR: 46.26. FOW: 85/4

30.6 -Shakib hits another, this time airily through covers for four. A bit risky, but that is how Shakib starts his innings. Bangladeshis will hope that he can last.

30.4 - Shakib Al Hasan is not bothered by the scoreboard. In the sixth ball after lunch, which is only the third ball he has faced, He hits Pat Cummins for a well-timed off drive just wide of mid off.

It's 12.02 PM Bangladesh time and lunch has been called on Day 1 of the second Test. The players went to lunch straight after Soumya's dismissal.

It has been Australia's session. They have picked up three wickets and also managed to break the partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque. The duo reached 49 runs before Soumya was dismissed.

Mominul Haque is not out on 24.

29.4, Ban 70/3 - Soumya plays forward but not enough. Ball hits him on the back foot as he misses the line of Lyon's delivery. Nathan Lyon picks up another wicket -- it's another leg-before wicket, his third this morning. Soumya played for the turn but it drifted in slightly and that made Soumya miss the line of the delivery.

Soumya Sarkar lbw b Lyon 33 (81b 2x4 1x6) SR: 40.74

There has been no run for the last 13 balls without a run.

28.6, Ban 70/2 - Aussies go up excitedly as ball takes off from Moiminul's pad. Not out.

Mominul has looked to stand his ground when Agar has slid in the faster one. Risky ploy if the ball turns viciously.

Interesting stat! Bangladesh have scored the highest percentage of runs in boundaries since Tests in 2010.

26.5, Ban 69/2 - Width on offer from Agar - Mominul drives through mid off. Great effort on the outfield to stop a boundary.

End of over 25 (Soumya 32 n.o, Mominul 17 n.o)

Ashton Agar has been brought into the attack by Smith. Soumya and Mominul have looked to counter everything with a straight bat so far. That has been the decisive trait of their 41 run partnership.

23.6, Ban 59/2 - That late cut from Mominul through backward point is seemingly his favourite shot. He picks up two off Lyon by gliding it square of backward point.

22.3, Ban 54/2 - Quick bouncer from Pat Cummins. Hits Momiul straight on the helmet. Balls loops up and falls shgort of the fielder running in. Would not have been out either way.

21.3, Ban 53/2 - Mominul romps onto the back foot and cuts O' Keefe through backward point. Fielder gets a hand to the ball and the batsmen run two.

21.2, Ban 51/2 - Bautiful delivery from O' Keefe. Beats Mominul with turn and flight.

End of overs 20 (Soumya Sarkar 27 not out, Mominul Haque 7 not out)

19.6, Ban 47/2 -  Mominul dances down the wicket and flicks it over deep mid-wicket for four off O' Keefe. Hit with the spin -  alittle risk involved but ball races to the boundary.

The pitch has held up a bit. Both Bangladesh batsman have gotten out while trying to play across the line to Nathan Lyon. Mominul has so far looked to play with a straight bat.

18.6, Ban 41/2 - Soumya punches Cummins on the back foot through the covers. The batsmen run two.

18.2, Ban 39/2 - Soumya flicks uppishly. Ball holds off the surface from Pat Cummins - Sarkar's tentave shot falls safely in no man's land.

It's been a patient knock from Soumya so far. He has looked to pick his moments and not play rash shots. This is supposed to be a good wicket to bat on.

15.6 overs, Ban 32/2 - It's Soumya Sarkar again. He dances down the wicket and uses his feet with great purpose and timing. He lifts Lyon straight over mid on for six.

15.2, Ban 25/2 - Stand and deliver from Soumya Sarkar. Drives Lyon through the covers for four.

End of over 15

14.2, Ban 21/2 - O'Keefe has been introduced to the attack. Ball keeps very very low. Soumya goes for the cut shot on his backfoot. Ball goes past his bat and there was a noise. Aussies go up in appeal but the umpire gives not out. No review from Australia this time.

Mominul Haque is the new batsman at the crease. Kayes's poor run witt he bat in this series continues. Lyon has picked up both Bangladesh wicket and both were leg-before-wicket dismissals.

13.4 overs, Ban 21/2 -  Lyon strikes Imrul Kayes's front foot. Australia are reviewing the decision. Bangladesh lose their second wicket. Smith apparently took the decision on his own while Lyon thought there was an inside edge. Decisive from the Aussie skipper.

Imrul Kayes lbw b Lyon 4 (11b 0x4 0x6) SR: 36.36

End of over 10 (Soumya 6(26) not out, Imrul Kayes 3(6))

Bangladesh are 15 for one after ten overs. Imrul Kayes joins Soumya Sarkar at the crease.

9.1 overs, Ban 13/1 - Lyon hits Tamim's pad and the Australias are confident. The umpire raises his finger. Tamim is out. Ball pitched on off and would have hit the leg stump. Big wicket for the Ausssies.

Tamim Iqbal lbw b Lyon 9 (34b 0x4 0x6) SR: 26.47

8.3 overs, Ban 12/0 - Tamim slashes hard outside the off stump but misses the line of the Cummins's delivery.

6.1 overs, Ban10/0 - Pat Cummins to Tamim Iqbal - ball takes the outside edge and flies to the slip. Maxwell is at first slip and he drops Tamim! What a let-off early on in the innings. Big miss for Australia. Tamim scores important runs and they know. Steve Smith's dissatisfaction tells the whole story.

End of over 5

It's been a good start for Bangladesh. They reach 10 without loss after five overs. The pitch experts say that the pitch is a lot lighter than the one in Dhaka and may not crumble like the one in the first Test.

Bangladesh are 5 without loss after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Bangladesh have made one change -- Mominul Haque makes the squad as Shafiul Islam is dropped.

For Australia, spinner Steve O'keefe comes into the side for injured pacer Josh Hazzlewood.
