Tigresses beaten in final Women’s World T20 match
Bangladesh women's team's batting once again fell short of what was required as the batters could not stretch the score past 80 for the fourth time in the tournament after bowlers had done a good job of restricting South Africa to 109 in their final outing in the ICC Women's World T20 tournament.
Bangladesh sent South Africa in to bat first after winning the toss and opener Lizelle Lee gave the Proteas a flying start before she was run out. After South Africa reached 60 in 9 overs, Bangladesh bowlers put the squeeze on the runs by taking wickets. Salma Khatun bagged three while Khadija Tul Kubra struck twice as none of the Proteas batters managed a big enough score.
While neither side would have made it through to the next round, Bangladesh had the chance to seal a higher standing than the Proteas with a win and ensure direct qualification to the next edition of the tournament if they could finish off the chase in 13 overs. Instead, they stumbled their way through another batting powerplay, losing a wicket and picking up just 13 runs. Then more wickets fell as Sharmin Akhter and Nigar Sultana fell to low scores. Only a team-high 34 off 40 deliveries Rumana Ahmed allowed the Tigresses to reach 79 for five wickets as South Africa won by 30 runs
Bangladesh ended up losing all of their Group A matches to finish bottom of the table while South Africa, courtesy of today's victory finished third.
Brief scores
South Africa: 109/9 (Kapp 25, Lee 21, Salma 3/20, 2/18)
