Chittagong triumph after first Super Over in BPL history
The match between Chittagong Vikings and Khulna Titans went right down the wire and ended in a tie that resulted in the first Super Over in the entire tournament's history. Chittagong then managed 11 off the Super Over bowled by Junaid Khan. Khulna managed to score 10 as Chittagong won by Super Over.
It looked like the match was Chittagong's for the taking when Yasir Ali (41 off 34) and Mushfiqur Rahim (34) were batting. Khulna bagged Yasir and Sikandar Raza (0) in quick succession and Chittagong lost their way when Mushfiqur followed them back to the dressing room with the score on 121 for 6.
Pakistan's Junaid Khan, playing his first BPL game this season, bowled an excellent 19th over to Robbie Frylinck, conceding just 4 runs and leaving Chittagong needing 19 off the last over.
Mahmudullah handed the ball to Ariful Haque and he was hit for six by youngster Nayeem Hasan in the second delivery of the over after he had missed the first one. Nayeem went for the big one again and was holed out as it was left to Frylinck, who had crossed over to the other end, to win the match. Frylinck proceeded to dispatch the fourth delivery over the bowler's head for six before he punished a poor waist-high full toss, one that could easily have been called a no-ball, for six over square leg fence.
The drama was not yet over, with Chittagong needing 1 off 1 as Frylinck then swatted and missed the last ball and was run out to leave the game in the mercy of a super over.
Earlier, Batting first, Khulna were given a good start Paul Stirling and Junaid Siddique once the openers departed, Dawid Malan (45) and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad combined in a 77-run third-wicket stand that took the score past 100.
Abu Jayed got Malan's scalp and then Sunzamul Islam grabbed a brace, removing Carlos Brathwaite and Riyad off back-to-back deliveries in the 18tth over. Khulna eventually managed to reach 151 for 6 in 20 overs.
