Amla’s ‘fun’ memory of playing against the Tigers

It was back in 2008 that South Africa's Graeme Smith and Neil Mckenzie set the world record for the highest opening partnership in Test, with a 415-run stand against Bangladesh at Chattogram. While the duo put Bangladesh to the sword, their teammate Hashim Amla, waiting in the winds to come out, reminisced on his 'fun' memory of playing that match against Bangladesh.

"We had two rained off Test matches, among 10 days of cricket it rained nine days or something. So that was really an amazing Test series that we had here," Amla said comically when asked about memories of playing in Bangladesh against the Tigers.

Amla, who had come to the BPL for the first time and will play for Khulna Tigers, had also played his debut ODI back in 2008 against Bangladesh but his lasting funny memory of playing the Tigers came in the Test series.

"In the Test series Graeme Smith and Neil Mckenzie starred in a world record partnership and I was going to bat at number three and got pad rash from waiting with my pads on for so long," he said.

Smith scored 232 while Mckenzie struck 226 during a world-record opening partnership where the duo batted 94.3 overs before Smith made way for Amla. No wonder the right-hander had blisters and pad rashes.
